I recently purchased a 2002 280DA and am a bit stumped by the engine trim direction on the Quicksilver Dual engine control (Mercury part number: 88688A22).

Does pushing the vertical buttons on the control forward trim the engines down?

Tried having a look but can't really see the difference due to the swim platform and dock in the way. This is certainly a newbie question....first boat and trying to make sure negotiating my way out of the slip for the first time is moderately successful ;)

Thanks!

No offense....But...Before you get in a situation you will regret. Hire someone for a couple hours to teach you the boat and how to use the controls....Your Welcome.

No offense taken but given the regulations in place in my state it is not possible. Clearly not an ideal situation but looking for assistance where I can find it.

This is what i have on my 290. I replaced the little trim piece by the switches. It will help with what you need. I also put a little sticker in front of throttle and behind with UP and DOWN. Silly but it helps.

So to answear your question. Bow up brings drive up. Bow down brings them down. Hope it helps

Thank you - great find and I'll be looking in to ordering one. Wish the situation was a lot different. Expecting a steep learning curve.

Go slow and take it very easy. Like driving a car the first time.

Your up can be 1 of 2 things only. Either your trim limit swtch on drive is bad or your up solenoid is bad. You can use your trailer button till you get it fixed. That only bypasses the limit switch and allows you to go up farther. Just watch your guage. Should really not need to go up more then 1/4 guage ( first line on guage ) you will see your RPM rise when you do this. It just will take a good ear and time to know how the boat wants to run best for you. Like others have said. Take your time, read up on stuff and get to know your boat
