We allow McDonald’s to serve foods that will kill you. Tobacco companies to sell products the will kill you.

Prove your point. Quote the constitution, or law that supports your position you have a right to infect other people, i.e. do them harm.
 
Only YOU can prevent forest fires, and only you can prevent yourself from getting Covid-19. The science of personal protection is solid -- stay inside, if you go out wear a mask, wash your hands often, stay 6-10 feet from others.

I am not doing you harm if I don't wear a mask. You can always walk away from any person not wearing a mask.

More deflection. But BTW, going to McDonalds is entirely your choice. Getting infected by some stranger in the grocery store, or airport not wearing a mask is not.

The reality of life is we only have control over our own actions. Quit worrying about others (you'll drive yourself crazy) and protect yourself. It's that simple. How to protect oneself from Covid-19 is defined by science. It's not a mystery.

Vulnerable people, and my wife and I are in that category, should not do much outside of the home. We work hard to take care of ourselves, keep ourselves safe. We don't worry about others, save to shake our heads at their boldness/stupidity.

There is no doubt that Covid-19 is not going anywhere. "Nature's broom" of another sort. Don't want to get it? Modify your own behavior, don't worry about others.
 
Not to be picky, but Henry, isn't the section of the article you added pertaining to health care providers in the presence of symptomatic or asymptomatic patients, not the general public? That's the way I read it. I could be wrong.

Could someone point out the specific section in the Constitution and the Bill of Rights where it is stated that during a pandemic, I lose my liberties to the state? I can't find it.....It has to be in there somewhere, because some states have decided to lock down commerce and private property.
 
And Henry, where does it stop? As much as we all would
like to help that 110 year old WWI vet, we cannot stop life for the rest of the world, even though we might be able to increase his chances of 115 if everyone changed their lives.

Your body is not just your own, it is made up of millions of bacteria, germs, and even viruses, some good, some bad, humans spread disease just by living. It seems many very smart people have forgotten just how nature works living in the rampant arrogant affluence of today.

It cracks me up the same type of people that say we cannot stop pizzing and pooping of homeless on city sidewalks now think they can control others breathing...

Apparently WHO, who I have often been critical of for their China connections, doesn't buy into the American subservience trend of trying to force masks on the sheeple*.

  • If you are healthy, you only need to wear a mask if you are taking care of a person with COVID-19.
  • Wear a mask if you are coughing or sneezing.
  • Masks are effective only when used in combination with frequent hand-cleaning with alcohol-based hand rub or soap and water.
  • If you wear a mask, then you must know how to use it and dispose of it properly.

  • Before putting on a mask, clean hands with alcohol-based hand rub or soap and water.
  • Cover mouth and nose with mask and make sure there are no gaps between your face and the mask.
  • Avoid touching the mask while using it; if you do, clean your hands with alcohol-based hand rub or soap and water.
  • Replace the mask with a new one as soon as it is damp and do not re-use single-use masks.
  • To remove the mask: remove it from behind (do not touch the front of mask); discard immediately in a closed bin; clean hands with alcohol-based hand rub or soap and water.

That is just about a 180 degrees from what the US media are promoting. And the advice passes the common sense test. I guarantee that no one outside of a medical setting is doing it properly and homemade masks are downright impossible to do safely.

I am sure you are aware that our right are not unlimited, but carry some responsibility on the citizen. It's the old "can't shout fire in a crowded movie theater" and claim free speech. HOWEVER, whenever a government chooses to restrict our constitutional rights they must do so with a compelling governmental interest and narrowly tailor that restriction to meet the interest. So trying to control a pandemic is a compelling government interest. The question is are the restrictions they have placed on us narrowly tailored? In many cases they are not and are over broad and unconstitutional.
 
They also make it seem like your mask is disgusting and should never be touched and if it is then you need to wash your hands immediately. So let me get this straight, this disgusting piece of fabric is right near my mouth and nose but that’s ok. Just don’t touch it...

Do we all realize how taking things to extremes is getting out of hand. Viruses, diet, transportation, and well just living kills. From the day we are born to this world there is a series of mitigated risks that must be navigated. For the early part of our lives our parents are supposed to be there to try to ensure this and teach us how to mitigate them later in life.

I say mitigated, because part of our long term health is actually being exposed to things that are bad, like bacteria and viruses at a young age. These will teach our body to adequately protect itself when we get older. But... there in no cure for everything and even simple viruses, bacteria and cancer can and do kill children at young ages. Unfortunately there is no guarantee in life and there are outlying situations that come up that pop up from time to time. These outcomes are devastating to those personally involved - and yes we have been through some of these events with friends and family personally. This is where the community comes together to support the family and hope for a cure.

What worry's me today is that this virus is turning us as a community against each other and instead rallying us together it is causing a great devise - even here on our friendly forum. The backlash is for many to want us to turn over our freedoms to the government and legislate a disease away. This is just not going to happen and it is time that each of us decide how we wish to mitigate our risks. If you feel that you are at high risk then please do all you can do to protect yourself but do not ask us all to sacrifice everything (life, liberty, pursuit of happiness - yes the inalienable rights) for you. As a nation (sorry to the Canadians - I am speaking from my perspective) we were asked to sacrifice to flatten the curve to ensure hospitals were not completely overrun and we did - but now the government does not want to give us back the freedoms they promised.

Forget all the political rants - ignore the red and blue - just open your eyes and look to nature. We see from all the testing that a very large percentage of those being tested are asymptomatic - should this cause us worry - is it a spike in cases - the second wave?? My answer (and only a personal belief) is NO - it is a sign of encouragement. Why? If nothing else it proves that our human species can adequately deal with the virus and over time we will build in the herd immunity to make this an "everyday" virus - with or without a vaccine. It also has shown us that it is far less deadly from a statistical perspective than many other things.

So I ask that for the time being if you are at risk take the proper precautions that you feel are adequate for your situation and keep in mind that there are many other virus, bacteria and diseases that will kill you. Over time there have been many horrible viruses and bacteria in the past that were devastating and we learned to live with it. Each year we hear water born bacteria and parasites that kill - have we asked to shut down all waterways, parks and pools - No and that would be silly since these are rare occurrences that are isolated. The problem here is that this virus has been hyped to make some believe that just by going outside they were going to die.

I realize that this virus has asked us to look into the mirror of our own mortality. This is something we normally push off to some forgotten corner of our brain to ignore like it is never going to happen. So, if you woke up today great - your on the way to a wonderful day! Look outside does it look outside, does it look much different than last year without the specter of the C-19? Probably not. Choose today to make the most of your life and include the C-19 in it - embrace it - understand it and go on with life - pick yourself up by the bootstraps and summon the courage to tell yourself that you can and will overcome this and take the proper precautions like everything else in life. Treat it like a car, boat or plane ride - every year thousands die but we use our best ability to mitigate and protect those who trust you to do the right thing.

But, please just do not ask me to give up my inalienable rights because you have chosen otherwise. Looking to the government it probably the worst decision we could make. Do we really want our health outcomes decided in the same manor that everything else is decided in Washington - based on budgets, party lines, districts, lobbyists and who you know??? If you insist on the government intervening then it will only be a matter of time before they come looking to take your rights away and at that point all will be lost.

We just passed Memorial Day - did you happen to take the time to reflect on the challenges and the risks previous generations made to get us to where we are today as American. Do you realize that all of our fallen soldiers took on substantially graver risks on your behalf. They stood up and willing took the risk to do what was right and some made the ultimate sacrifice - that is what we do when we show our best side. Please reflect on those heroes and take the time to ask yourself if you can muster the same courage they did to do what is right in spite of the virus and please do not ask me to stand down in the face of the enemy.
