So My mercruiser 496 has been overheating a bit. Changed impeller, bacflushed oil cooler, checked riser hoses, changed out coolant and inspected other hoses.
The last thing I did now was clean the heat exchanger. Pulled off the end caps and found that it was clogged about 15%, cleaned It out. And found the gaskets as pictured. I put in some new ones that are supposed to be flat like a cd. Seems to be ok but will find out when on the water. Could this deformation of the gasket contribute to the overheating?

That 15% clog you estimate is enough to produce the overheat. Add in the crapped out gaskets and the cooler can't keep up.

Clean it, new gaskets and you're set to go.

done. New gaskets installed and exchanger cleaned. Hope to get a good test run this weekend.
Just wanted to get input if the gaskets alone can cause overheating.
