OFFICIAL - 450DA Owner's Thread****

Let me know how it goes getting the sender out. I just couldn’t get to it with out removing a bunch of other crap, and it’s getting too close to the season to fool with.

Oil sender on my 3126 is a 1 1/16 deep socket... The bolt to back out the impeller is 1 1/8. Port engine done and I am having trouble with the starboard engine, I lubed the new impeller with hand soap and can only get it 3/4 way in... Any tips or tricks ???

Cup the new impeller blades in the correct direction and fasten a zip tie around the impeller blades then rotate the impeller while pushing it into the pump housing. Still difficult, but a lot easier than the 3-4 hand job it is if you don't fold up the impeller blades..

Thank you for the tip... I forget about the zip tie trick. The older I get the more I forget.

Can anyone tell me with a 1997 450DA if the Perko sea strainer has a cork or rubber cap gasket? Perko changed from cork to rubber about that time. I need to order from the US to New Zealand and would prefer to do so and have on hand before breaking the seal on the current just to clean it out. We are thinking it’s rubber. Perko can’t give definite answer. Manufacture 06/97.

Our 1998 had rubber.

The standard Perk gasket was cork.......you buy a new Perko Strainer and it came with cork. If you have a Perko strainer with rubber gasket on the lid closure, then someone has already replaced it or rebuilt the strainer and used the rubber gasket kit (the repair kits come either way)

Rubber gaskets are far superior be cause they do not crush. After a number of removals for cleaning you end up tightening the lid to the point where the cork gasket crushes and must be replaced too prevent leaking. So, the rubber gasket is best, but the cork gasket will do OK for a while. The rubber gasket can be ordered from Perko the last time I replaced mine, about 5 years ago.

Thanks Frank. Got a reply from Perko. They stopped doing the cork apparently mid 90’s and went to rubber. So they are saying it will be rubber. Will order accordingly. Interesting I can’t order from Perko. They have sent me to Fisheries Supplies to order. $19 seal and $55 US Postal they want to charge. I remember ordering some parts for the synchronisers from Glendinnings and the postal charge was only US $20. Any other recommendations I could source for this sort of part. Just need a shop to pop it in the post versus going through their automated ordering site to get a delivery charge.

Are these not just flat washer type seal? I would think you can source some 1.0 1.5 or 2 mm thick neoprene sheet and cut some out with scissors. Amazon here in the states has Qty (3) 6"x6" x 1/16" neoprene sheet material delivered for $10.

No, it is a formed rubber seal, also, hi issue isn't the cost of the seal, but the shipping charge to New Zealand.

Tantalus, didn't I give you the contact info for our marina in Florida some time ago........I ordered a rubber gasket for a spare this morning...if you call John Mass at 850- 234- 6533, ext. 23, he can probably add another gasket to his Perko order. Honestly, John is a good guy and for a $20 sale he may just send us both to a distributor like Fisheries Supply because there isn't enough margin for them to fool with on a $20 sale.

If you need help with Fisheries Supply it's a 1/2 hour drive from my house... Let me know.

Thanks Frank. Appreciate the number. Do you have the part number? They are telling me I need to let them know what what pipe size is of the strainer as parts #s vary according to that. I know it’s a 0493 ### 99R, just need the 3 digit code in the middle which represents the pipe size of the strainer. I can’t get to boat until next week to correctly check. I would have thought that they would all be the same size as surely the caps are generic across the models, but maybe not.

For $50 shipping, I'd try a a DIY solution.

The a/c strainer on a 450da is 3/4”.

Hi all. Have that nagging smell in the boat. Have seen a number of posts on this forum about replacing the sanitation hose. Have two questions for those of you who have replaced the sanitation hose on these boats.
1) I took the galley head vacuflush apart this weekend, disconnected the hose from the vacuflush, disconnected the hose from the vacuum accumulator in the galley, and then was unable to actually remove the existing hose. Hose must be clamped down deep underneath somewhere. Has anyone successfully removed/replaced that hose? I even tried to bypass the hose with the new hose with no success. Couldn't get the new Trident 102 hose to work its way from the head into the galley or the galley back up into the head.
2) I have a 1996 450 with what appear to be original waste holding tanks. I was able to track them down at DuraCast for $450 a piece. A little pricey. Is it worth the cost to replace the tanks on these boats? Do most people with a boat this old replace both the tanks and the hose? I'm the fourth or fifth owner of the boat and think it would make sense to replace the tanks.
Thanks for the assistance.

‘98 here with the original tanks and hoses.... Noflex digester is your friend. Turn your system off and pour down both heads with the water. The goal is to keep it in the system without flushing all of it into the tanks. I let mine sit over the winter and it made all the difference in the world. Your other issue could be your gray water sump box, make sure it’s spotless otherwise you can get a funky smell from it.

Thanks for the recommendation on the Noflex digester. Just did some research on that. Will try that before replacing the tanks. I do regularly check the gray water sump box. Not a problem right now. Can't believe you have original hose throughout. Just replaced a piece of hose I was actually able to remove this weekend. The stench coming from that hose was terrible. Will likely still need to remove the remainder of the original hose in the boat. Appreciate the advise.

When flushing after use, water is your friend... (use more water)

We had the same nagging smell on our 450, When we changed the hoses to the new Trident it was gone. I think there was 85' total in the boat, The wife and I done it in 2 weekends. There are support clamps in some hard to get to places but it can be done. We took a heat gun to warm it for making bends and getting it on fittings. If you are going to keep the boat it is well worth the effort. We took our waste tanks out and went to a car wash and they cleaned up like new. Did get some looks though LOL!! Good Luck!!
