Official 320 Dancer Thread

Hello! First post on here! Been boating my entire life....just in a little 1988 Sea Ray Seville 180. :p

Finally decided to upgrade to a 02-07 320. Couple questions for the group....

1. Do they make a stern drive 320? A couple I've looked at online say stern drive but i'm having a hard time seeing the difference in the pics between a stern drive and a v-drive. Is there anything obvious to tell the difference? (I want a v-drive)

2. Is there anything I should specifically be looking for during my search? Options/features/etc??

Most mentionable. Increased speed, mush easier to work on, a lot of space in the engine compartment. Can get into a little shallower water. Cons, more maintenance, not as maneuverable unless have bow thrusters

I the pics, if the engine room is really crowded, that’s V-drive, if you can see the pulleys and lots of room, that’s a stern drive. If they sow pics of the props, it’s pretty clear. Not all posts are accurate, rely on the pics. Some mislabel inboard v-drive as stern drive, for example.
I would look for upgrades when looking on line. When looking in person, check for water damage and leaks on the interior. Check to see how well it’s been maintained. Hard to really tell even that without a survey and getting the service history

Here’s the engine bay pic. I think it’s a v-drive but the listing says it’s a stern drive.

Vessel View with Garmin in 2003 Dancer with 350 MAG MPI

I recently had all the parts installed for Vessel View to work with my Garmin through NMEA 2000 connectors - diagram below - here is the problem - I am only seeing one engine - not sure why - checked everything the cables have the resistors at the end by engine as instructed - not sure what the problem is ANY ADVICE is welcome.

What’s the part number you installed for the gateway? Also, if you switch the cables, does it switch engine data you see? I’m assuming if you start Port, leave STBD off, and vice versa, you always get the same engine, or does it change engines, based on the first/last one started? Are there any options in your garmin device to display one vs multi engines?

Todd thanks for your email and helping out
Part numbers
2ea 84-879981T20 -
20 ft. (6.1 meter) SmartCraft data harness non DTS with (1) termination resistor
1ea 878492K14 -
4-port Junction Box Kit with weather caps
1ea 8M0165589 - NMEA 2000 Gateway Module Assembly CAN P Multiengine & CAN H Multiengine

I am going to boat today and will report back on Switching Cables and starting one engine vs. the other. The Garmin is a 942 and yes it has options for 1 vs. 2 engines and I have it set to 2. It shows all the dials and info for two but only one engine is reporting any data.

I think you may need a scan tool to change one engine to port. In non sc applications many time both are set to starboard. Check the network log and see if both engines are present.

Thank you Craig for your reply - i have heard this about both being set to STBD and having to set one to port. How do I check the Network Log? :) sorry if that is a dumb question - just not sure how to do it

Should be in the network menu on your mfd.
Or n2k device list menu

thanks again for asking me some questions
Ok so here is the update
it sees both engines
The Garmin is set with 2 engines and there are two columns for all data
however, if I start the STBD engine it shows the data in engine 1
if while the STBD Engine is running I start the PORT engine it sees data for STBD in engine 1 and nothing in Engine 2

If I turn both off and start the PORT engine it sees the PORT ENGINE as Engine 1

So in summary - whichever engine is started first shows up as Engine 1 and there is nothing in Engine 2

I am starting to believe the issue here is setting the engine as PORT - they are both showing STBD so it is sending only data for 1 engine because it only reporting as 1 engine cause they are both set to same.

Appreciate any insight or help.

The testing proves what Craig is saying, both are coming in as STBD. I do not know how to correct that, maybe a tech with Merc scan tool?? I just spent the entire day boating from St Pete, FL, to Palm Harbour Marina. 5 hour drive ICW, but we made it and engines ran great.

I have 8.1’s and added a Garmin 8612 to the existing 942 and had my marina do the installation adding the gateways so I could see the engine data on the Garmins. After installing they had the same issue with only one engine at a time showing. They worked with Mercury and Garmin as well as a local Garmin certified installer and could not get both engines to show up at once. My marina was upgrading another boat to Vessel View and hooked the Vessel View display up on my boat first and both engines showed up. I thought we were going to have to upgrade to Vessel View but when they reconnected my Smart Craft it all worked like it was supposed to. I know very little about the install and don’t have the knowledge to help but just wanted to share my experience.

Hi guys

just sold my 300DA and moving to the 320 it’s a 2005 with V-Dives never owned a boat with them but I’m sure it’ll be fine and less maintenance over the I/O.

boats located in FL and I’m flying out of NJ to go see it do survey & etc.

Anything in particular this year 320 to look out for or “known” issue with them.

owner seems to have been taken good care of it. Mostly in fresh water, owner lives 45 min. up the canal from the ICW in Fort Lauderdale and has never done manifolds or risers, and boat was kept in a boat bunker for most of the time, it’s like a closed in pool of fresh water and was great he says, but it broke apart about a year and a half ago and they don’t make them anymore.

I have seen the boat on FaceTime can’t wait to see it in person and hopefully take ownership of it.

WOW!! Looks really good!

My Kohler generator has a leak and I am getting the LOC error code and it shuts down after a few minutes. When I looked, I found this leak was coming out of this part (see pic). I can't find this part listed under any manual or diagram for the 5k gen. Anyone know what this is? Two wires on it so it must be a sensor? It is attached to the heat exchanger. I was hoping just to order a new one and be done with it. Thanks.
