Official 2003.5-2008 340 Sundancer Thread

They can also get weak, loose and/or corroded. I replaced both of mine due to poor connection on one of them. It was loose and would not tighten up. The way they are made they can get loose and cause them to get hot. Definitely a bugger to get to but is main power feed for many things. SR could certainly have put it in a easier access location.

exactly. Lose and won’t tighten.
Mine are really easy to get too on the top of the engine 6.2L
Thanks for feedback
Just trying to find them in Australia isn’t simple

UPDATE TODAY: Replaced 90AMP fuse on solenoid (didnt need to disconnect battery as when you power off the solenoid breaker, it kills the power) - replaced and guess what? NOTHING SILL!
Tapped solenoid, starter - nothing
However on top of engine there is a bundle of cables cable-tied up near the plug leads - I just tapped on those and it started
Damn, there must be a loose or broken wire.
Will need to investigate further or get electrician onboard.
Just posting in case others may have the issue as well.

Looking at 4 freshwater 340s, priced 115, 118, 119 and 129k. How much should I expect these to depreciate over the next 5 years? Trying to decide on this boat vs a late 90s 370 in the 70-85k range.

Anyone willing to share what they paid 3-5 years ago, where they’re located, hours etc?

has anyone accessed the speakers in the front of boat on either side of the v berth? i think i have a small leak behind the port one. cant see how to access it. thanks

The prices up 2003.5+ 340SDA bumped up over the past couple of years. Alot will depend on year, maintenance and features. I would not doubt they are selling in mid 90s+. When I purchased mine a few seasons ago my surveyor mentioned problems with people buying boats above BUC value which was making financing difficult. I saw the trend continue and I personally feel these are some of sea rays most popular models especially comparing to price of new in the similar size range. I feel that today I could probably get at least what I paid for it so depreciation has been minimal.

I paid $145k AUD (which is equiv to about $121k USD) with VDrives and Dual 6.L PETROL engines.
That was a 375 (equiv to 340DA) 2005 with a few mods sch as Lithium Batteries, Solar, Clean. etc
I do know that if our dollar was closer to parity with the USA, I would have gone to FLorida and brought one back here.
Thats a good price. Are they mainly Diesel or Petrol on the 34-37ft models?

Most US based 340SDAs are powered by 8.1L Gas with V-Drives followed by the 496 with Outdrives. There are a few 6.2Ls around. Occasionally a Diesel will be seen but it is a rare occasion for that in the US.

in Australia fuel is ridiculously expensive.
$2 per litre
That’s about

It might be better to share the year and specs you're looking at and if someone has a very similar one then that info will be much more helpful than the span of 17 years.

Mine is a 2003.5 SDA, 8.1L, ~890 hrs, nicely maintained but no real updates, spent the first half of it's life in freshwater. Bought for $62,500 in 2019.

Fairly common issue, from what I understand. Mine had similar leak and was coming from the anchor locker. I removed, cleaned, and resealed the anchor davit bolts and problem went away. While in there, I went ahead and did the same to the front anchor cleat.

Thanks for the reply, I’ll take a look in there and see. What are the anchor Davit bolts?

@dagerringer is correct in saying share more details. Here is some reflection from my purchase.

Location will play a big deal in the value. When I was shopping my 340SDA I budgeted approx $10K for a southern boat (FL etc) on top of purchase to purchase and get it to me in NY. This was a roughly 5-6K transport, plus additional travel expenses for me to locate a potential boat. When I found a local boat that was higher priced it was not a big deal - plus I was able to roll a trade in of my 260DA to save on sales tax at purchase.

My boat also had some nice options including a bow thruster that also added value. Additionally, my boat was purchased through MarineMax that handled the whole process of the sale including finance, trade, registration, documentation, etc. Additionally all minor details from the survey were (for the most part) included in the cost. This included prop conditioning, bottom paint, a couple of sensors and a major servicing of all fluids, impellers, anodes and some minor canvas repairs (+++). On top of that the boat was delivered with a full tank of fuel and a whole lot of new gear (lines, life jackets, fire extinguishers, etc) along with a captain to assist in delivery and education.

All this was rolled into my financing without having to come out of pocket for it. So my point here it that there is a lot more to look at when considering a purchase then simply the price. l would suggest finding what appears to be the best overall value to you.

Sorry, I'm looking at the 2003.5-2008 models only.

115k: Private seller, went and looked at this one. It looks brand new, no exaggeration. Cleanest used boat I've ever seen. 2003.5 with only 340 hours. Current owner of 8 years. Generator with 200 hours. Recent updated Garmin 7" GPS/Chart and VHF radio. SmartCraft system. Could eat lunch off the bilge floor. Only thing it doesn't have that I want is Radar and a rear camper enclosure, which will probably be 8-11k for me to add.

118k: MarineMax brokerage boat 3 hours away. 2004 with 300 hours. Camper and radar. NO generator.

119k: MarineMax brokerage boat 3 hours away. 2006 with 480 hours. Yes Generator, no camper or radar. SeaDek throughout cockpit and platform.

129k: Local brokerage. 2006 with 450 hours. Gen and Radar, no camper. Not interested at this price.

Edit: Found another 2004 with 305 hours that was listed for 117k, sold on May 5th. Radar/Generator, no camper.

Thanks for the replys!

Thanks Kevin, maybe I'll have to talk to you about the camper top in the future based on your signature line?

I've considered finding one out of state as it seems I'm in a high-priced area vs salt areas. I probably should have done that over the winter but now that we had our first 80 degree day yesterday I want to upgrade my 1994 290 asap lol. I also am intrigued by having something newer and more reliable, vs my current oldie.

Feel free to get my phone from our website (www.covemarine.com) and give me a call if you have questions about the 340SDA.

Does anyone know if the draft listed on the spec sheets on searay.com is the draft as the boat sits in the water, or the maximum draft (ie. when trying to get on plane)?

I figured it was as the boat sits at rest, but someone just told me it's the max.
