Hey everyone! I am working a little at a time to get the shine back on my Sundeck 210. Based on what I've read online regarding Magic Eraser, I definitely don't plan to use it on the outside of the boat...also, I believe I am good in that area anyway. So, here is my question:

On the inside of the boat especially around the sink an cockpit areas, where the space is too tight for a buffer to get into, it is very dull and has been neglected by the previous owner. Could I use a Magic Eraser in these areas to remove oxidation, then hand polish and wax to shine it up?

I don't know what buffer you're using but when I'm using my Makita with a large pad (7"?) I turn it on its side and use the edge of the pad to get between those areas of the helm. Be prepared though because it's going to sling wax everywhere.

why can't you just use your buffing compound and elbow grease? The magic eraser will lightly sand the area as that is how it "cleans."

I did use some elbow grease on it last summer without much luck. I was using the Meguiars One Step product...this year, I have Meguiars 105 cutting compound and it has done MUCH better on the exterior of the boat, but I haven't tried the inside. My thoughts regarding the Magic Eraser is that it would be like "wet-sanding", then I could go back over it with a polish to shine it up, then wax, or maybe just a wax to shine it up. I have the Meguiars Flagship wax.

I am not a fan of Magic Eraser for much of anything on the boat - they seem to do more damage than good, especially on things like vinyl. They are really a fine sanding block. I think you would be better off using BuffMagic (or your favorite polish) and doing it by hand. Unfortunately when it comes to oxidation on gelcote, there are no shortcuts.

Ongoing I use spray wax and spray detailer on the inside gelcote surfaces and between waxes on the exterior.
