If the survey goes OK, I'll be buying a 2000 SeaRay 460 Sundancer. The cockpit had an ice maker that apparently quit and the owner never replaced it. I would like to put a refrigerator in that space. What do you recommend? I do not have the dimensions right now but will next week.

I would never have a boat without an ice maker. I have grownup buying ice and dealing with it...it just sucks.
We keep our fresh water tank sanitized so we could drink the water and no problem using the ice in drinks for years now.
If we need more refrigeration than the salon fridge we keep a Yeti in the cockpit and it is usually beer and it's kept cold from the ice maker every other day.
Don't give up the ice maker

I had an ice maker on the bridge of my boat for 7 years and never turned it on. We had a 5 day cooler that was always full of ice.

I use my ice maker all summer long. Not to make ice - I hate crescent cubes in my drinks - but to dump a bag of clear store bought cocktail ice in every week or so.

We have a full size fridge in the galley and an oversized one in the cockpit. The cockpit fridge holds all beer and drinks. We have a small countertop icemaker if ice is needed for drinks. Just works better for us.

We replaced our with a refrigerator and love it. If you want a refrigerator a dometic crx50 is an almost perfect fit. You will have to trim the edges and put something in above it to cover the hole. I just had a piece of stainless cut.

Interesting responses and all appreciated. I wanted an ice maker and my wife said it would be better to have a fridge to keep cold drinks. I'm just the Skipper but she is the Admiral. Not a done deal yet. Stay tuned.

I can't imagine not having an ice maker. I love ice cold beer. It just seems to me that refrigerator beer isn't the same as iced down beer out of my RTIC.

Very handy to have especially at cocktail time:cool:

Having done longer cruises we found the ice maker to be of more use. We added a Culligan inline filter for it. Takes the main tank additives out.
