420AC Thread

Thanks Jack. It seems Searay changed the hatch design sometime during 2001, I think when they changed the cabin layout. I only have 1 hatch that is hinged in the centre of the main cabin. Access is horrible. That hatch is located in a larger hatch that is secured via bolts to the floor with access to those bolts in the bilge. Just a horrible design. You cannot perform even a valve lash on either engine without removal as there no clearance even to remove the rocker covers.
I will remove the hinged hatch as you suggest to reduce the weight of the other hatch as I think it will be heavy standing alone.
Thanks again for reply.

Installed a dedicated kitchen sink drain so it no longer runs into the sump. If you cook on the boat, it was a greasy mess. Pic of coring and finished product....few hour job!

Installed a new floor over the weekend. Easy on the feet and easy on the eyes. Did the swim platform, flybridge and settee area (if that is what its called). I had to make a template for this as was not done by them yet. They now have a template....the flybridge needed a little adjustment/trimming to fit.

I take a few more pics over next weekend. They have fall sale which is the best time to buy the material.

That looks great. Would love to see more pics of the areas you did. How is it held down?

Would you provide the vendor info and cost? Keep up the good work.

I had posted this on another part of the forums. I am looking at a 1996 420 AC. Of course it have hopefully a good hull survey. I boat on Lake Lanier in Georgia. The boat has the 7.4 Merc engines 380hp. We use the boat 12 months and rarely just sitting at the dock. That said we go to the same cove that is roughly a 10 minute ride at 22 mph at 3000 rpm with my current boat(1981 310 Vanguard with crusader 454's 350hp). Is the 420AC with those engines underpowered?

Is the boat already on the Lake (no move required)? I have diesels in mine and its not underpowered....cruises 21 knots. Perfect use of gas power since you are not going cruising far. my boat weighs 40K pounds with full fuel.

Yes the boat is already on the lake. Yes I did see that performance chart

Thanks

Is there a 110V for front stateroom makeup area? The only outlet I can find is by the TV and have to run an extension cord over to the makeup area.

If you have not found the power supply to the built in vacuum, its a great source for power for laptops.

I notice that there is no trap like a sink at home. You have a direct line to the side of the hull. My current boat (1981 Searay 310 Vanguard that is for sale so I can buy a 420 AC) has that set up too. They didnt use grey water sumps in those days. A direct overboard drain allows bugs etc to enter the cabin so when not on the boat, I keep the drain stopper in. Nice neat job you did. Thanks for showing.

We went out on the 1996 420 AC that we are looking to buy in the next week or so. The current owner runs the twin 7.4 Mercs at 2500 rpm. The ride at that speed is less than great. I would most likely run at 3000 which on that boat you are doing about 15 MPH. At that speed it doesn"t seem to wallow so much when dealing with any wave action. What speed do you guys generally run at. Yes it will drink gas pretty well but I dont usually go that far

Has anyone changed out the freezer?ice maker on the aft deck? Wondering if so, what did you put back in?

I am negotiating for a 1996 420 AC as we speak. They did replace the ice maker with a Raritan. It looks really good. All Stainless steel and I think they said it was the only one that was a perfect fit. They look like they run about $1200.00

The 1996 420 AC I am looking to buy has a refrigerator on one side of the galley and a freezer of equal size on the opposite side of the galley. Do they run on both 12 And 110 volt or just 110?
