So my boat is almost ready to splash but after wire wheeling off some growth, calcification from props, rudders, shafts and struts it occurred to me if I should somehow paint/coat these surfaces before it goes back in our brackish water? I never have before. My boat is a 44 Sundancer. Anyone have recommendation to use Interlux Primocon and/or Trilux 33?

Rare to have a big boat with bare props that stays in open water for the summer.
The debate is years ongoing about PropSpeed, Pettit prop coat, Rustoleum Zinc paint, barrier coat then bottom paint.....
If your clean up wasn’t bad...maybe do nothing?

I’ve personally tried Primocon then bottom paint, Pettit prop coat and now Rustoleum cold galvanic compound. Even my friends that use the high dollar PropSpeed end up stripping it every year......

I have been using the cold galvanizing compound on rudders, shafts, bow thruster tunnel and trim tabs and have minimal build up at the end of the season. The previous owner prepped the boat this way and I picked up where he left off.

This is my test year with the Rustoleumn on all underwater metal.

I am trying prop speed this year. Everything has been bare until now so I will be getting my results in the fall. I will be curious to see the results.

+1 on the Rust-Oleum. 3 years now. Just don’t get the glossy version(yes they sell one). A friend used it and it didn’t work as well. We both boat together therefore same distances/use of both boats. I think that makes it a fair test. Also I do about three coats. I don’t know if that matters

Well, the inexpensive Rustoleumn stuff worked great!
I just prepped the running gear for this year and the stuff adhered very well and almost zero barnacles..the prep for new paint was easy.

I heard to spray with PAM cooking oil after you paint them, old sailors trick.
