Hey guys! Can anyone tell me where the heck I can get a new carpet cover for my cabin floor? Doing some updates on my 370. The carpet is beautiful so I don’t want to replace that, we are putting in the aqua marine decking on the swim platform, salon and cockpit which arrives today but I want to find a black snap in carpet protector and I can’t find it anywhere. Would love some help!

My canvas is black so that’s why I’m looking for black specifically.

Any canvas guy can make it....by using your existing cover or a pattern if you want to change it....should be fairly inexpensive

You would think so lol. Got a quote the other day and they wanted $1000 and that was with me bringing my old one in for an accurate template lol. I was like, nah I’m good. Mine is in good shape, I need two snaps replaced on it but I can do that. I wanted to change it to black as it’s brown now but I’m not so upset that I need to pay 1000$ lol.

You're right that's a lot... When I have a small project, I buy the material from https://www.sailrite.com/ and take it to a small reupholster shop... all you need is a guy with a heavy duty sewing machine

Yeah that sounds like a smarter idea lol. I took it to the bigger local canvas shop which charges people out the wazoo since boating in west Michigan is such a big deal lol

For a 380, it was $520 plus tax at a local canvas shop (for both pieces in the salon), which isn't known for being cheap.... so a grand is high.

Well....I mean...not to split hairs here but we do have the second largest # of registered boaters in the USA. So it is kind of a big deal in Michigan for the $1M+ registered boat owners??? :)

I was quoted around $1k for runners a couple years back, installed. Perhaps request a quote with DIY snap installation, it'll likely shave a couple hundred off the price?

You could also check snapincarpet.com. They may have your templates.

And last...take good care of that canvas you have. If you think $1G for runners is unreal just wait until you see what quality, replacement canvas goes for here in West Michigan. Ugh...

Oh man I know! My entire camper canvas is strataglass windows lol. Luckily I’ll get many more years out of it before it’s time to overhaul it but yeah I’m not looking forward to that day hahahahaha.

Shop around a little. I got a quote of $800 to make up a new set for my 410. Never did it because mine came out pretty good after machine washing it.

If you can get me some overall dimensions I can probably work it up for you and figure out a price. Unfortunately, you would need to ship it to me and I would fabricate it based on what you have and send it back to you. If you do not want to ship me the actual piece I can work off of a template. If needed I can mail you the template materials. More that likely we would be using Sunbrella material with Sunbrella binding unless you wanted something different. You would need to install the snaps yourself.

If you want to call me get my info from www.covemarine.com and give me a call or put all the info in at https://www.covemarine.com/request and I will call you - let me know the best times to reach you!

Thanks
-Kevin

I'll share one final thought on this one...since it's 5PM, I've been remote working since 7AM and I just poured my first drink while I finish emailing for the day :)

Having gone through the full change curve regarding cost of runners, I can attest that they are worth every bit of $800-$1,000 for a 37-42 foot boat in my humble opinion.

Rewind 2 years - I got a quote like the OP for runners for my 400, I reacted violently, then convinced myself to buy a Sailrite machine for more than the cost of runners :) (I have an impulse buying problem). "An investment" I said, "think of all the money I'll save" I professed, "endless opportunities" to learn how to sew. Shoot, the material for a set of runners is sub $200 from sailrite.com using the good stuff.

The pro's are not getting rich charging $800 for these runners. I easily put 10+ hours into my runners when you combine making templates, cutting the fabric, checking the fit, sewing the binding, re-watching the "winding a bobbin" video 73 times, installing the snaps and convincing myself "that looks pretty okay".

Like the OP I did this because I couldn't stand the OEM tan. I wouldn't change course if I had to do it again but man alive...sewing is not easy :)

Agreed, the solid tan is tough to keep clean.
The previous owner held on to the OEM set as a spare when he replaced it. The OEM originals I have are tan also, but they are a little darker and not a totally solid color.
I only use the spare set over the winter, or when I take the newer set home to wash because it’s not in great shape, but if I were getting another new set I would try to match whatever the OEM was because the newer solid tan replacement set I have is very light colored.

Just looking at the layout for that runner you were probably doomed from the start. None of the conventional straight binders from Sailrite would accommodate those interior curves. I recently had a new binder made for me to handle such details. This one tool with mounting, throat plate and feet cost me nearly $500. Even with a professional tools some of those interior right angles may be best done by hand. While doing things like this are not particular hard - they do require an investment and learning curve that may quickly out run the cost to have some one do it.

It's kind of like watching a paving company come in an blast out a driveway in a day with the proper equipment.
