Hi Guys,
My boat is currently in Florida and I am planning on trucking it up to NJ and then bringing it over to Long Island from there.

It was recommended to me that I could/should go to Brick, NJ.

I am looking for a Full Service Marina to re-assemble the electronics on the radar arch that have to be removed as well as put the props and skegs back on the pods.

Does anyone have a strong opinion of who to use/who to avoid?
Thanks in advance!

There is a MarineMax in Brick with their marina. I'm sure they'd be expensive as hell to do that work. If you couldn't bring it up yourself, have you considered hiring a Captain to bring it up? Might be cheaper and less aggravation in the long run.

Thanks ENstig8or
I definitely considered it. Its roughly same $, but i don't put the hours on the boat.

Nothing cheap so far on this boat... .why should anything change now?!?o_O

Navesink Marina in Sea Bright, NJ might be an option.

I'm sure Comstock marina will be able to do anything you need. It's just south of the PP canal. If you decide going them, make sure to ask for navigation advice. The area is a not that deep and there's a low spot. I've been there many times and never touched. But, you need to be aware of the bump to take it nice a slow. I don't think you'll need to worry about the bridge, but if anything , it opens on request, no big deal.

Since you're trying to mix it up (trucking vs. delivering by water), open up your range and look at any place that offers good options, starting from Cape May, AC, Barnegat, etc. For example, Forked River has few full service marina. Silver Cloud comes to mind, which seemed reasonable.

Lastly, I don't know your boating experience. If you have the comfort level and the knowledge and the time, doing the delivery on her own bottom is an adventure you might not want to miss. An excellent opportunity to engage some family members and/or friends. It's obviously more involved, but reward and experience is totally different.

P.S.
Something to consider, the prices of fuel now is at the lowest we've seen in decades. So, from fuel expense point of view, it'll be the cheapest delivery. NC and VA prices are under $1.50. Lowest reported was $1.38 p/g.

That has to be for gas, can't imagine that is for Diesel!

Holiday Harbor Marina is excellent and located in Waretown NJ....20 miles south of Brick but straight access to ocean out the Barnegat Inlet. HHM handles lots of 50' plus boats.

Shaps, I had my 48 Sundancer hauled and rigged for truck transport at Marine Max in Brick NJ to Nashville in 2017. I felt like that did a very good job in keeping me informed and updated during the process. When the boat made it to Nashville I did not have any issues or damage from them. On my boat they removed the small radar arch, the Sat Dish, all GPS, VHF antennas and removed the props and rudders. They cleaned the bottom and flushed all engines and HVAC systems as well. The run from LI to Brick is not hard but the inlet can get tricky so I would pick the right day.

Nope, for diesel, at least as of last week. Call Jarrett Bay in NC or Top Rack in VA and see for yourself.

I assume this is ZEUS boat, as in your profile? I would think the pods need to come off for height, which I would think would mean you want a marina qualified to handle them? I don't recall ever seeing a boat over 40' on a trailer that didn't have props and rudders removed to get the keel as low as possible on the trailer.

Thanks ENstig8or

I had a smaller boat shipped from FL, lots can go wrong on the road and do more harm than a hundred hours on the engines. That boat had water damage from torrential rains and the boat not loaded level on the trailer due to height restrictions.

When looking for our current boat we made an offer on one in FL and same as you saw no big difference in cost between truck and water. My plan was to have it brought up by water as that is its natural habitat, not on the back of a truck.

swaterhouse, you make good points. I really have gone back and forth on this.
I (believe) found one of the shippers that Sea Ray/Marine Max use to move boats up and down the east coast.

Yes, it is a pod boat. i am being told by shipper to remove props, skegs and all electronics from the arch. NOT the pods themselves.

I plan on wrapping it down to the waterline so am hopeful that alleviates the water issue.

May I ask the name of the shipper that caused you grief and, did you make an insurance claim on the damage done to that smaller boat from Florida?
Thank you... You are giving me pause..

Reach out to Capt Rusty Higgins and see if he would be available to captain it up with you. From the reports of others it would surely be trip to remember and probably learn alot from.

I also had my 320DA trucked from FL. Not a disaster experience, but far from being smooth. I honestly have no clue how they'll do with pods on 50DA. I also had to strip that radar arch and take off the props and this was done to just make it on the low profile trailer. I forgot if 14' was the max clearance, but I guess they'll figure out other roadways with wider and taller load.

Late spring is the best time for a delivery trip. It's nice and warm in FL and starting to get nice in NE as well. Just saying.....

Very good advice. And if Rusty is not available hiring an experienced captain will help a lot and make the experience so much smoother.

Marine Max has a place in Somers Point, and LBI NJ... The Somers Point location is near the Ocean City inlet, and would be a easy run to LI... If I were you, since you boat is so new, I would stick with Marine Max. It may be more money than other options, but as Sea Ray dealer, they should be more familiar with "newer" Sea Rays... I found the mechanics at Somers Point better than Brick, but that was some time ago...

It really wasn't the shippers fault - cant do anything about rain. Its rare to have the boat sit perfectly on a trailer like it would on water, even even more rare to have it tilted to the stern. There wasn't any real damage done, just water in places its not normally in, it all drained out and dried out over then next few days after getting it in the water. My point was more that there are risks in trucking.

I was also heavily advised by multiple people to skip the shrink wrap. If it tears and the driver doesn't catch it it can wear the gelcoat layer right off. Remember this is constant 60+ mph winds for 18+ hours. Spend the money you save on shrink wrap on a good detail when it gets to the marina.

Tried Marine Max in Brick..
EARLIEST he could even think about helping me... END OF JUNE
umm, no thanks..
Anyone have experience with Green Cove Marina?

Thanks for all the comments and suggestions. Please keep them coming..

Have you considered Liberty Landing in Jersey City? I'm not sure about full service (which I think they are), but getting you off the truck and splashed should be easy for them.

Just keep in mind, the closer you're to the NYC area, the more you'll be paying for all the services.

This is norm for any transient. Remember that NE is at its peak time for getting all of the regular customers splashed. It should be no surprise that you're their lowest priority. My advice, make several more phone calls and if you hear the same ETAs about end of June, start working your way south. MD or VA could be your savior working with your schedule.

If you jump on a plane and start your trip in the next few days, you could be here before June......LOL..

This could be your best bet to do things timely. Don't give up yet. There are number of marinas you can still try. It all depends how far you want to travel by water.
