Getting out of my '08 48DA and now in contract on a 2018 L550 (coupe, not fly) - survey in a week. Anyone with experience about this model willing to share thoughts would be appreciated (positives, negatives, things to look out for specific to this model, etc) - and yes, I am aware Sea Ray no longer makes these size boats. Thanks in advance, stay well everyone.

Run away quickly if it is a Zeus boat.

Can't give you a real answer, but I have heard a lot of negatives on the Fly series.

Nice boats but many quality problems with that program. Get a extra thorough survey down in the nooks & crannies.

Thank you. Out of water survey was done w extra attention paid to any voids or delamination as I know other late model boats (510 in my Marina) had big issues - nothing was noted. Rest of boat will be done next week, boat had very little warranty history. Any specifics you may have heard of that I can look out for appreciated.

My friend has a 2017 510 fly and lost most of last season due to Sea Ray dragging their feet on warranty work due to voids in the hull. It ended up getting repaired but was a long process.

Sounds like you have it covered. My surveyor stated he had seen big swings in qc on some of the L models. A good surveyor is a wealth of knowledge.

I’m on east end of Long Island - have same boat in my marina w exact same issue.

Good luck, they are great looking boats. Hopefully you get a clean survey and can move forward.
Where is the boat located?

As I recall...... but it has been a while ago.....Rusty took an L550 with Cat inboards down to the keys for a photo shoot. It was about a week long trip and he was very high on the boat and the Caterpillar power train. You should try to catch him this weekend as he is very busy these days.................

Thanks - I have been in touch w Rusty briefly - he was doing his recon on the hull # itself, like you said very busy right now so still awaiting his conclusions but initial thoughts on boat and CATS were, as you said, positive.

The smaller 400's and 460's (not L Class) had the problem as well as engine mounts and exhaust issues. My Dealer sold a lot of them - and had to fix a lot of them.

Someone told me Larson had looked at buying the large Sea Ray line and the warranty exposure made it a "no deal"...

And look where Larson ended up.

Jeez, no wonder Sea Ray big cruisers went into the dumper. Breaks my heart knowing there won't be another one in my future.
