Official 1980's Weekender/Sundancer 300 thread

On our 300WE we have a hatch for the anchor line. The underside is plywood and the outer is fiberglass.

Has anyone had to replace the old plywood and if so what did you use? That storage area stays wet due to the line being wet.

I was thinking PVC would be a better backing and use 3200 to adhear it to the glass, would that work?
Would you have pics of underside of anchor hatch. I have to replace the wood

Can you post some photos?

If the windshield is leaking you will have to lift the windshield and rebed the screws and frame. Another member here did it and posted photos and the process for the rest of us.

Some of the members here talked me thru the project. It was very easy once I understood how to use the resin. Make sure you use care removing the latch, it's just cheap pot steel.

I will post some photos tomorrow when I get home from the boat.

I tried doing some searches, but there is just so much data coming back on this forum. Anyone have recommendations where to get spare parts for an 88 300 weekender. I'm trying to clean up my boat which has relatively new engines and new upholstery, but the rest of it could use some cosmetic TLC: new vent covers, one of the wiper motors is dead, 2 hatches are leaky, some of the weather stripping could be re-done, some of the metal on the outer windows is busted up.

I have a 88 300 sundancer that I also just got took it out once before the shut down that needs some tlc so if you find thing share them with me and I will do the same for you

Ok let's go down the list.
The vent covers, EBay SeaRayguy has many of those.
The hatches, Taylormade.com. They also have the weather strip.
The wiper motor, check with the group that advertises here on CSR.

I dug out the rotted wood on my anchor hatch door on my 88 weekender, I know what you are dealing with... if you go to Sams Club they sell these white cutting boards in packs of 2 for commercial kitchens. It’s a very strong plastic,,,and they are pretty cheap, great material for this. Did that in like 2009... sold that boat in 2017, that was a good fix :) I’ve uses the same material for other projects, it’s cheaper than King Starboard and its at Sams all the time.

My starboard gas gauge does not work either. My dad who owned the boat for over 15 years feels like it cannot be fixed without taking the gas tank apart, but this wouldn't be the first time he was overly pessimistic about something that I was later able to fix pretty easily.

I would be interested in tips as well because I'd love to get it working again.

Ditto, you can reach the top of the gauge and get to it, but it's a slow process. Long arms help! Once done, it's nice to have a working gauge again!

I'm a newb to all of this, I was 7 years' old when this boat was built!
Do you have any pics or can you describe how these pieces fit together? Do I get to the tank from inside the engine room or do I take off one of those circular panels on the side of the boat. This is the starboard tank (driver's side).

Do you think the float is stuck or something? Can I get to that from outside the tank?

As for the gauge itself, is there any work to do on that or is there a way to test it? I've been in the dashboard panel before so I have a little experience there.

My dad said he tried a bunch of things, I'll try to find out what those are so we can troubleshoot it.

Sorry I'm not finding what ad you are referencing for who might have the wiper motor.

I found the vent covers from searay man, on the way!

Taylor made has the replacement parts listed on their site but they want you to go through dealer, so now I'm sifting through all their distributor websites.

Thanks!

There is a guy on Facebook Sea Ray group parting out an 88 300 Weekender I think. Boat actually looks nice. I'm getting a few items I've been looking for. I know he has hatches and other cosmetic items.

cool i will check that out

i came up short on hatches, i may just have to replace the broken arms and leave the glass as is, the glass itself has these little swirly / bubble thing going on, suppose there is no way to address that

the used ones out there don't look any better than what i've got

If you take out the divider inside the little compartments under the aft step downs, you can reach the top of the tank and the gauge and wiring much easier. Still a stretch but better than trying to work under the deck.
