420 DA Thread

Buyajet, Great information. Thanks for posting.

With 525 hours in just 18 months it seems you must be on the move quite a bit. Have these hours come from day trips out and back to the marina, or are you on a journey?

We have made it a point to leave on Thursday and return Sunday or Monday every weekend since we bought it. We were down for a month while generator issue was dealt with.

I made a short video of our trip to bring the boat home. Great first ride

Looks like you had great trip. Just curious, why did you take down the aft canvas. I run with the cover on, gen going and the heat on. I think I saw you didn't have cockpit heat, but 2 electric heaters would have been nice.

Does anyone know what v-drives 1990 42 da's came with and were there options ?
If you have Cat 3208TA 375's it should have MPM V160-M , I believe ZF Hurth made them,

Hey there, where do you purchase the "powerwax", i just had mine compounded and waxed - cost me more then my first boat I think - GEESH. So.. I would like to keep it purtty!

Kysearay-I didn’t post the quote above. Who is chris?

We have been using our isolation time wisely, and have now completed the first phase of our changing the lights on our boat program. Thank you to all the previous posts that helped us figure out a few tricky parts. I thought I'd share a post that we made in relation to this for those that may be interested in seeing what we did. Our boat name is Aurelia Dawn, and she has a website :)

Mine was $3,500 complete. The quote was $2,300 for cockpit and $1,200 for platform.
We just received a quote (in Texas) for a SeaDek alternative for around $4500. So either things have gotten more expensive, or I need to keep looking ;-)

OK, so I think we all will admit that we are ALWAYS discovering new things about our boats even though we thought we new everything.....so i’d Like to start a thread identifying the things that make us say....hmmmmm, I never new that! As for me: I realized there are zerk grease fittings on the engine hatch lifting rams. Another is that there is a big breaker for the windlass on the forward bulkhead in the engine room. Anyone else?

Maybe I'm the last guy on this thread to know this but I just replaced the zinc on my bow thruster. I sort of knew there was one in there but never tackled the job until now (boat's on the hard.). Needless to say there was absolutely no zinc left, just some powdery residue! For those interested, the zinc is round and is located behind the propeller inside the thruster tunnel.

BP-1185 Zinc Anode for Vetus 60; 75; 80 & 95 Bow Thrusters (SET0150)

Item Code: BP-1185
$22.36

BTW....excellent video series on Youtube, done by Vetus Bowthrusters on this. Video #4 demonstrates propeller removal with zinc replacement.

The original props on the bow thruster was a 3 blade. Mine had all sorts of nicks and chunks out of it from years of use. I replaced the prop with new 6 blade from Vetus. Changed the zinc at that time. Now I change that zinc every time the boat is pulled for detailing. Cheap insurance.

Barely any old zinc was back there just some remaining residue chalk. Do I need to get these off or do they remain as part of what new zinc will fit over? They seem fused in place. I put 3mm Allen wrench in center but won’t turn at all. Need some help/guidance

Yes you need to remove those screws. They are what secures the zinc in place. You may want to replace them too as, sans any zinc for some time, they could be pretty corroded. Soak em in some PB Blaster for a day or so. Best of luck in them not snapping off or rounding out the head. You may have to end up putting some vice grips on them.

Yes, those screws hold the zinc on. The new zinc usually comes with two new screws.
Your going to need some leverage on that little Allen wrench. They can be tight and in an awkward place to get leverage, but it’s doable.
Maybe put the box end of a little 1/4” or 5/16” combination wrench over the short end of the Allen wrench to try to crack the screws loose.
That’s what I’ve done.
