I have found several boating and non-boating apps for my Samsung phone that I've downloaded to my phone and use from time to time. Mostly when I use them it's to just kill some time (don't we all do that!) but there have been a few times when I've actually used them while we're on the boat or getting ready to head out.

I'll show you mine if you show me yours. Here's mine:
-Non boating apps
--Gas Buddy
--NOAA Weather Free
--JStock (stock price tracker)
--Google Calendar (Syncs with my laptop)
--YouTube
--Decibel Meter
--Speedometer
-Airlines and Hotels
--Fly Delta
--Airlines
--United Airlines
--Allegiant Air
--Expedia
--Best Western
-Car Rental
--Enterprise
--Hertz
-Boat Stuff
--Anchor Lite (Checks Drift while anchored)
--Navionics Boating HD
--Windy
--Live Weather
--Marine Ways (charts etc.)
--GPS Speedometer

So there's my list. What are your favorites?

IN my boating app folder, I have:

BoatUS
US Coast Guard
Wind Alert
HurricanSoftware.com
Locations (I believe it's tied to Active Captain)

Too many others in other categories.....

Jaybeaux

I use Gas Buddy all the time, and Waze whenever I take a road trip.
I got a holder for my iPad that fits in the cup holder and run Waze on the iPad.

BlueChart from Garmin
Inavix
Various weather apps. Tend to use Accuweather Marine app
Flight view. Replaced Flighttrack that went away
Uber
Lytf
DragQueen. (No not New Orleans kind, the anchor app from Active Captain

BoatUS
DragQueen
BoatingSuite
Navionics
Simple Tides (quit working with last iOS update, so I need to find a new tide app)
U.S. Coast Guard (also quit working with last iOS update)

Oh man... shameless plug for my own app Boating Suite (although it's only for iOS).

My other go-to boating apps are:
  1. Dark Sky
  2. Navionics
  3. ProKnot
Non-Boating Apps:
  1. Apple Music
  2. Shazam
  3. TripIt Pro
  4. MyFitnessPal
  5. MapMyRun
  6. Dropbox
  7. Notability (I use it on my iPad and Mac)
  8. Uber

Another boating app I use is SailFlow
Its based around sailing, so it provides wind predictions by location, showing normal and peak gusts by the hour. Predictions are pretty spot on. Wind conditions can be so different just 10 miles apart in the Puget Sound, so we use it just about every trip.

Hello all!!! It's been awhile since I've been here but I wanted to revive an old thread and let you know that I'm releasing a major new version of Boating Suite this Thursday, April 16th.

It's a complete re-write of the app and I think you'll like it. With all of us under lockdown, this is a good time to get our logs in order.

You can read about the app here: www.boatingsuite.com

You can pre-order the app here: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/boating-suite/id1501874071?ls=1

For those who don't know me...First, I've been a member here on CSR since 2008 but took a little hiatus this past year for my real job and to develop this app. Second, I created Boating Suite waaaaay back in 2010. I'm a boater like you and a one-man operation... this app is a labor of love.

I follow the spamming and advertising rules here but thought I'd mention the new app because a lot of members here are also Boating Suite customers.

Happy to answer any questions!

Thanks

Hey Rob, I installed the new version a few days ago and imported my old data into it.

Each time I launch the app, the splash screen mocks me for having no trips this year and tells me the weather is terrible. Will that be fixed in an future update, or do you plan to make it CarPlay compatible so I can pretend my trips to Costco are more fun than they really are? :D

It looks pretty cool so far. I'm eager to put it to real use.

Feature Request:

You may have seen some of my posts that mention how I suggest, urge, beg, threaten and coerce every boater I know to fully-enable DSC. Could you create a field in the Vessel Log for an MMSI number? It would be a useful way for app users to have it on-hand for nearby boaters to make DSC calls.

Bug Report:?

When I tap on imported Maintenance Log items that have an "i", the app crashes. I don't think there IS more info to those, and I've noticed that 2.1.3 does the same thing, so maybe I just have some corrupted entries. One imported item doesn't have an "i". It doesn't cause a crash.

Thanks for downloading the app!

Adding the MMSI field is simple and something that I add to our roadmap.

As for the crash... First, the "i" indicates an incomplete entry and means you're missing some required fields. The crashing could be a couple different things. It could be corrupted entries as you mentioned, or it could be entries that were created in 2013 or prior. This is a known issue that came about when we changed our database in 2013. You can read about it here along with a workaround: http://www.boatingsuite.com/support/ki-2013-bug/

I know this is a PIA but you could export your maintenance log to a .csv file and open it in Excel so you can see the data. Then you can re-create those entries in the app. You can delete any entry by swiping on it from right to left.

Here's a link to exporting your data: http://www.boatingsuite.com/support/exporting-your-data/

Thanks for downloading the app. Send me a message any time if you have questions or issues - support@boatingsuite.com - everything goes directly to me.

Thanks,

Rob
