Anyone got experience with this issue? I checked the seal and did the paper test all the way around and it seems to be ok, not great. For a month running and this is the ice build up seems really bad. Help.... wifey is pissed!!!

Standard issue. My 20 year old fridge does the same. About once a month, I turn it off and defrost with a hairdryer.

I get quite a bit of build up by the end of our 6 month season, but not as much as in your pic. I run my A/C even when we're away from the boat during the week, and wonder if that makes any difference?

I have a 4-month old NorCold and I have defrosted it once already. Same results with the dollar bill test. Last one was 12 years old and same. I have learned to live with it. Refrigerator gets down to 34-35 and freezer is 16-17.....

Same here, every couple of months I empty the fridge out and let it defrost then deep clean. Good reason to get rid of the clutter.

Same with my fridge.
Seal is good, but freezer still needs defrosting every few weeks.
Routine maintenance.
They’re not frost free.
Those of us old enough to remember having freezers that weren’t frost free take it in stride.

Many older marine fridges do not have automatic defrost - which heats up the coils briefly to melt the ice. These units are considered manual defrost. How often you need to manually defrost depends on humidity in the cabin, frequency of open/close, and seal integrity. Shaving the ice down with a plastic scraper may help prolong the inevitable.

I usually scrape til I can see a little bit of the coil (be careful here you can ruin an expensive fridge). Then a hair dryer gets the coil warm enough for the ice to come off in sheets...5 minute job.

I usually do it before leaving after the weekend so it’s ready to go when we get back for the next weekend

It's not normal!... Most likely a lot of moisture in the cabin or low on charge or a little bit of both.
Frequent openings will also add moisture especially in more humid climates.

Every marine refrigerator I've owned does the same thing. We pay a premium for these fridges that are 1960's tech. Even my new units did this, and that was after checking door seals, etc.

And I keep my cabin dehumidified, and in the summer run AC most of the time. For the most part these are just inferior high priced fridges.

Agree, Best option may be a regular small kitchen appliance fridge if we could make it fit and not look like crap, and run it on an inverter

I had the same issue with a 2 year old fridge and installed a strip of foam window insulation over the existing gasket and it fixed the problem.

Simple fix-never open the door!
Ours used to frost up as well but only bad towards the end of the season.
