Hello all, Newbie here. Just moved from a 4 Winns 260 to a SR Sundeck 240, looking forward to getting it in the water. Wondered if anyone has used the boat plug drain lights? I got one and plan to install it this weekend. We like to camp and boat, and frequently for for "Midnight Cruises" Hopefully this light will illuminate the water behind the boat.

I purchsed one of these https://boatpluglight.myshopify.com...ug-led-lights/products/stainless-steel-typhon for the boat. Anyone else using this?

Keep us informed.

Some have had better luck than others - but it's not going to match true underwater lights. I've never used one, personally, but have read of others who reported them breaking off.

What I can tell you is that particular one is a no-no. Nothing below the waterline should be SS. It can corrode and fail. At least get one that is bronze.

FYI, also know that it is actually against CG rules to use them while underway.

Lazy Daze,

Thanks for the reply and I did know that you are not supposed to have them on when running. I do have a question, You say SS is a no no below the waterline. If that is true why are props made from SS? This boat does not stay in the water for long periods of time. It is a trailer boat.

Because they are not a fitting where it could cause your boat to sink. Feel free to look up the CG reg's if you want, though.

But SS props are connected to an SS shaft... surrounded by an aluminum gearcase. In this scenario, the gearcase will be the item to corrode and fail as it is "less noble".

Trailer boating - much less of an issue. But make sure to remove the plug each time and inspect it. This also prevents the two materials from corroding together to the point where you can't remove the plug.

It appears that I offended you by asking my question. No offense was meant. Just trying to understand.

No, no worries. I wasn't offended. I really did mean to go ahead and look up the CG reg's - something like that you should check out for yourself, rather than just relying on some guy on a forum!

Hey MORobb, We've had one of their billet aluminum Typhon lights in blue on our 185 for over 3 years. He called his company "Diablo lights" back then. It's been flawless, no issues whatsoever. We just bought a 240 Sundeck and I ordered the QUASAR light for it. I'll update as it gets installed and in the water.
I'm sure there are differing opinions on drain plug lights but if you're wanting one I would 100% recommend that brand.

Be careful, and make sure there is plenty of clearance between the device, and your outdrive or outboard. If they collide you will spring a leak and your lights will be on the bottom. Especially with their 2 or 3 light adapters. Don't ask how I know...

I am going to install the light this week, as we are going on Vaca next week. I only have one, so no adapter sticking out farther. Will let you know how it goes.

I used this thing, and it was a bad idea. It almost sunk my boat. Lesson learned. The guy at boatpluglight.com didn't warn me about this possibility, and didn't really have anything to say when I told him what happened.

I see how that could cause some trouble!
Glad it did not turn out badly

Yeah... did NOT have my thinking cap on correctly that day.

emunns, Great picture with the skyline. The light looks awesome. I got mine installed and tested it last night. Worked like a charm. I couldn't get a pic as I has our swim mat tied on the platform.

No idea. First time out, mid speed cruise, and when I got to the next dock, we were taking on water. I think don’t know if it’s just not strong enough or what. My best guess is that it may have touched the outdrive and broke... but I’m not convinced. Hopefully I can tell when we pull it out for the winter. If that’s not it, then it just broke.
