Cannonball record Broke during Wuhan Virus

Is there a boat version of a cannonball type race? That would be interesting! Yeah, the car version is fun, especially the Burt Reynolds / Dom Delouise movies!

I think it's a pretty cool tradition and have enjoyed watching over the years as records have fallen.

The run is 2,800 miles, 3,000 if you take another route.... to do it in 26 hrs-38minutes....they are averaging 104mph for 26 hours... that's pretty incredible

In the past there was a race that ran from Miami to New York. The run was wrote about in the New York times in 1985

I love it. During this pandemic, this is probably the best/safest time to do it with almost no traffic on the roads. That said, I think this record will get an asterisk because of what I just said above.

Yep there is. Just got my BOATING magazine and it has a small write up on the Bermuda Challenge. New York to Bermuda. 780 miles

Video about new record

Video of record that was broken. Pretty remarkable, controversial sure, but what a rush that'd be!

I’ve been in Goodwives shopping center for a Cannonball!
Was wayy too young to take part in the shenanigans but, got a lot of strange stares when my friend’s blue AMC Pacer (AKA fishbowl) drove up over and down the start line ramp...We had no idea what was going on. True story, must have been late 70’s or early 80’s..

Farrah Fawcett in the first 30 seconds of the vid. :)

And ya, as a teen - I got the bathing suit poster when it came out. Good times.
