420 DA Thread

Sir,

We have a 2003 420DA not far from you in Catawba. Thank you for the posts on your TV upgrades. Do you have any pictures and advice on your salon TV upgrade
http://clubsearay.com/index.php?threads/420-da-thread.1273/page-46#post-964687

There isn't a bracket. I got a piece of wood a bit bigger then the mounting hole pattern and just bought longer screws to go thru the drawer front, spacer and into the TV. The spacer is approx. 1-1/4" thick but up to you based on aesthetics.

The fake sound bar to fill in the gap is just a frame I made, painted black and wrapped with speaker fabric from Joanne's. It is fastened with Velcro to the front of the drawer. The Visio speakers point down from the bottom...so I put some deflectors in the sound bar to direct the sound forward.

Anything else let me know

Thanks to a post somewhere here on the forum I installed a 28” in the salon drop down TV this weekend. Fits perfect! Just have to modify the wood faceplate and it will be done. Hardest part was getting to the outlet behind the cabinet, but after finding an improvised step stool I could reach it. Love this forum!

It’s an LG that I purchased for my last boat 3 years ago. I can check the model next time I’m on the boat, but I’m pretty sure it has been replaced by now. Not many 28” TV’s out there. But it 28” fits perfect

I made a short video of our trip to bring the boat home. Great first ride

Earlier on in the video I saw a clip of your Port tech and it was indicating 2600 RPM but you where only running about 21-22kts (per your Axiom screen)? Is that tach inop? You should be a lot faster at that RPM...

The tach has a problem. I think I was running right around 2200 for most of the ride. Any advice on what would cause a tach to jump around would be greatly appreciated. Not sure what to look at first.

You can try swapping tachs to see if it follows the tach. I ended up replacing mine as one would just climb out of the blue. If i tapped the glass it would would start working again.

They get a little sticky inside sometimes.
Tachs are made to be used in a variety of applications so they are adjustable.
Most auto (and some marine) Tachs have adjustment screws on them so you can select 4,6 or 8 cyl.
Other marine Tachs just have them set to a specific position.
Doing the following will usually correct an erratic tach:
There should be a slotted adjustment screw on the rear of the tach.
Take note of the exact position of that screw.
Use a small screwdriver and turn that screw back and forth several times.
Return the adjustment screw to the original position.

I replaced the little bungy cords on my rear canvas today. The old ones were stretched out and pretty much worthless. $6 for a pack of 5 from Sailrite. Small but huge improvement.

I'm in the process of switching out the old snaps for Loxx fasteners (also from Sailrite) on all my back curtains. The snaps don't hold in the wind, come loose and then beat the gel coat. The old snaps are hard for my wife to snap/unsnap, so hopefully these are more secure and easier to use. If these work well, I'll be redoing more in strategic places.

Thought I would share a few tips having owned a 2005 420 for 18 months and have put 525 hours on it. I’ve learned so much from this forum and want to say thanks to everyone that shares their experiences. We sold our home, moved to boat over last 8 weeks with another 8 weeks to go. It’s been a great experience. So...
I use Noflex Digestor religiously. I put a little in each sink, let it dissolve and then run just a little water behind it. All sinks flow like new. I put one tablespoon in every shower drain every other day and my sump looks like new after 90 days. Also use 1/2 tablespoon down each lav every other day. Amazing results. To clean the shiny cabinets, we use yellow Windex multisurface cleaner. It’s easy, gets rid of all hand-marks, and kills bacteria. We use it on shower walls and all bathroom walls. Streak free and smells clean. Hyper cleaned the carpet last year and use the built in vac every few days. We also have a hand held for spot pickups. Every 60 days I use 2
Pints of bleach in the fresh water input, run it dry with all interior outlets running until almost dry then run the bilge, anchor, and lazerrete hoses for a bit. Then I fill the tank 2 more times with clean water and run them dry before last fill. We drink the water and I’ve tested it. No smell, no black toilet stains, etc.
Plexus is the best isinglass cleaner period. It cleans great and the protection lasts. I wash the boat every time I use it with Smoove purple wash. It gets the black crap out of gelcoat and leaves it nearly spot free. I still dry it. I treat all stainless every 4 months with Flitz polish and use Meguiars Black can carnauba to protect it. I have been using Rain-X on all glass inside and out every 90 days and that works well for me. To maintain a mirror finish, we use Perfect It 1200 with a soft wool pad and then follow with Smoove polymer. Easy and it lasts on the Gulf coast a good 3-4 months in blinding sun. In between every wash I use something called PowerWax. It is the same liquid wax that car washes use diluted 20/1 when you pay the extra. I use it straight out of a hand sprayer, let it sit, then hose it off. Water is scared to stay on boat after this. I have a gray hull and I get NO water spotting after it. None. Takes 15 minutes. For cockpit interior and Sea Deck cleaning I use Spray Nine. It eliminates soils and stains and is also anti-bacterial. This stuff works great. I follow on the upholstery with 303 Protector and that makes minor stuff easy to wipe off. Since we’ve been living on it, the admiral has been defrosting the freezer and fridges every 10 days or so. She uses a hand dryer and towel. Takes her 20 minutes for all of them. I wanted to share what I’ve learned in general upkeep (mechanical would take more time than I have right now) since this forum has taught me so much, I wanted to give back. Quarantined in our boat for now anyway and had some time. Hope all of you are safe and healthy. Mark

Great video. I been laying off the news and some forums, don't want the exposure to the negativity, it's catchy ya' know. Watching this was good medicine, gave me the fizz, I'm going to watch it again tomorrow and start the day on a positive note.:D:D

Does anyone have the color and source for the caulk/sealant used in the bathroom walls and also the top area of the dash? I think Color-Rite is the source but I have search
ed the forums for an hour and can't find it. Thanks in advance.
