My generator has always started perfectly until recently. When I hit the start button there is an electrical "click". I am certainly not a mechanic, but my analysis is the starter motor is not getting enough electricity, or voltage, to engage the flywheel. However, when I try this again several times, I can get the gen to start.
Does this mean the stater solenoid needs to be replaced? If so, is this something I can do or should I call in my mechanic? If I can do it, I can send a pic of the gen so someone can tell me where to look.
Or, do you think I'm off base and there is something else that is the problem?
Thanks for your thoughts.

I would start with checking gen battery. clicking usually means low voltage. Try starting both engines and let them run a minute or two and try gen again

I tried your experiment, with both engines running and each showing 14 volts. No change in starting the gen.
However, you have given me another thought. Maybe the voltage is low because of a dirty/faulty connector coming from the batt to the gen. Does that sound right? Any other thoughts?

As was mentioned, low voltage most likely. Battery is number one suspect. Next, look at all the connections for corrosion or loose fittings. Next could be solenoid and then other things that are not very likely if you stay on top of service.

I checked everything mentioned above, but still no luck. I had my mechanic look at it, and he changed the starter solenoid and that fixed the problem. Now she starts like new again.
Thanks again to all for your help.
