I have some surface scratching from boat fenders rubbing the sides of the hull.

Can anyone recommend a good compound that should do the trick. It’s not that deep so I’m hoping to avoid wet sanding.

I like marine 31 but any good compound should do, Mezerna, 3m, Megs, etc. Will need a rotary buffer and course wool pad.

Agree.. try this first....and use a quality wool pad not a pad from Harbor Freight.... Last resort is to wet sand but that should be a last resort... if just light scratching from a bumper..compounding will take that out, then polish, then wax

As Blueone states above, a quality pad on a rotary and I would try Buff Magic first. Use sparingly and buff it until it is gone-then polish and wax and should be good!

I have always compounded and then waxed after. Is polishing in between really necessary?

You know.... I had an interesting wax day... so I am on the hard and compounding a damn raccoon cage scratch out of the blue.... used compound and got most of it out... some parts are too deep..so need to deal with that later.
Then I polished and noticed the polish wasn’t taking the water spots off near by.... I remember on here guys were saying to use vinegar and water... so as usual don’t have vinegar
Before I started this project I power washed the bottom paint and then the blue hull... I was amazed how the water was beading... I have never seen wax bead like this especially on the sun side of the hull.... so I decided to go to the other side and just use wax...it didn’t need compounding. I was amazed... the wax took the water spots off and brought the shine back.
So I am now a bit skeptical on this polish step..... the wax product is Smoove... the bottle says both a polish and wax.... I am very impressed... I have used all their other products... but Bubble gum far exceeds my expectations.... for the first time ever
The pic... is a shiny hull.... everyone can show you that.... what’s impressive is how long it’s lasted and ease of use...
