420 DA Thread

View attachment 81432 View attachment 81433 Made the 60 mile trip home yesterday morning! All the things I read in this thread were spot on- the boat handled rough seas like a dream. It got pretty sketchy as I passed Point Judith but at no time did I feel like I was losing control of the boat. So happy I decided on an express boat instead of another bridge boat!
It was 29 degrees when we cast off lines so that aspect of the trip wasn’t so great.
I like your screen name (and your boat pics) - Which boat were the COB on?

Cool- I didn’t think anyone would figure out what that meant. Miami 2008-2012 and Annapolis for a deployment in 2012

All it took was another old sailor!! Thanks for your service Master Chief!

Congratulations on a successful maiden voyage.
Agree about the express boat. I love the lines on the bridge boats, visibility was great and they are fantastic at the dock with all the natural light in the cabin but I always felt like a chauffeur up there when running the boat with everyone else down below.
Regarding the 29 degrees. If I ever make another move up, Heat/AC at the helm will be on the wishlist.

Lol! I have cockpit heat but I need to replace the water pump on the genny. I decided no major maintenance until I got the boat home.

Funny, living in Texas I was super excited about getting a boat with cockpit air. Well, with all the canvas and isinglass down it does very little. Your kneecaps get a bit of a cool breeze underway and the one person who snags the corner seat behind the captains chair gets a little relief but across the neck but that's about it. I hardly run it anymore.

Now the heat, that'll burn you out of there if you run it with the canvas up.

I really wish they would have figured out that 2 hatches would have been better than one center hatch

So are you folks saying you leave the front isinglass on all year?

In the spring, after the pollen season, I take all my canvas down, clean it, and wrap it in blankets to store for the summer. Boat stays in a covered slip and is washed weekly so don't really see the need to leave it up.

I do...
How do you wash the top without getting the dash and cockpit wet ?
When I was in a covered slip the boat got dirtier with the spiders, birds and dust... I actually didn't like it....except on a rainy day :)

I'm not sure. I arrive on Friday afternoon and it's magically clean! :)

Spiders are a problem. All of us have spider nets across the top of our slips. It really cuts down the problem. And with weekly cleanings it really isn't an issue anymore.

Is that your permanent slip in your signature page?

We leave ours in all year. I had new polycarbonate "windows" made over the winter. They are ready, but the canvas guy is hanging on to them for me. Whenever we make it back to the boat, I will have a new set for Summer and an old set for the layup months.

No that's labor day weekend last year at The Sandusky Yacht Club...The two boats behind us are good friends
Here is our slip.... in the distance you can see Put in Bay.

Phew, I thought you had to come in that tight every trip. That would be nerve wracking for me. Not so much me coming in, but someone else coming in that close to MY boat.

Looks like you have quite a bit of wiggle room in your home port. Nice looking area as well.

Hard to believe it has been 13 years and change since I started this thread. We loved our 03 420DA. We ran the 58 up to DC two weeks ago (just before the recreational boating ban..thank you, Chinese Communists) and saw the old 420DA (now on her 4th owner) going down the river. Sadly no longer maintained to a high level of cleanliness, but one of Sea Ray's best Sundancers and a timeless design. But I'm prejudiced.

I have been upgrading the TV's in the boat I mentioned that earlier here in the thread. 420 DA Thread

Today I finished the master install. I had two options for size this 19" and the next size up that seemed to big for the wall. So going with the smaller one I had this big gap below the TV. The black is speaker fabric over a frame around the DVD player. Not ideal but I think it looks okay. The TV is mounted to the front of a drawer so we don't lose that huge space for storage behind it.

Sir,

We have a 2003 420DA not far from you in Catawba. Thank you for the posts on your TV upgrades. Do you have any pictures and advice on your salon TV upgrade?

Many thanks,

Jeff
