58 Sedan Bridge Official Thread

All's Well, keep in mind that your slip measurement is at the dock level while your beam is measured at the rub rail. The rub rail measurement is likely a few feet above the dock level. That rub rail measurement would likely only be a problem if your slip is covered and the supports for the slip are right at the edges of the finger piers.

Having finally secured a slip for a larger boat we are now looking closer at what our next boat will be. One of our options is the 58DB.

Looking through the pictures of listings we are trying to decipher the changes over the model years. We are really only looking at 2006+ as after cruising with people that have a davit for the platform we are really not interested in that option, a hydraulic platform would be best for us.

Largest difference I see is that in 2008 it looks like the transom locker/seat changed I would assume because no one (or rarely after 2006) put in a davit so they moved the seat into that locker.

The other differences we see are the shapes of the couches in the salon, some seem more curved on Starboard side than others but it doesnt seem to line up with years. Is there any rhyme or reason to the differences?

Are there any other subtle changes that are hard to detect unless you know the boats inside out?

We have only been on one, and it was dark and disgustingly dirty - perhaps why its listed well below all the others!

We have two major concerns with the 58.

One, the storage in the cockpit/lazarete seems very small. Where do you store things like folding bikes, fenders, tools, spare engine parts, water toys? For water toys we plan to have at least one inflatable SUP (rolls to 3' long and 16" square) and possibly an inflatable sailboat that comes in two packages about the same size. We also need room for three folding bikes.

The second concern is what the visibility from the helm is like for short people. One of the things my wife hates about our current boat is she can see forward while sitting. If she needs to help me keep watch she must stand.

Having looked at lots of 58DBs before purchasing ours almost 6 years ago, I’d be happy to go over the differences year by year. PM me and I’ll send you my cell number. BTW, my boat came from Russo Sea Ray in Boston. Also, mine will be going on the market next week, I should sign the broker agreement tomorrow.

Also curious about your plans. PM if you prefer. Thinking that you and I discussed one particular brand last year.

Got to say, always thinking about the next boat. Was the M boat, now - I think I am falling in love with the new Grand Banks 60 that came out a couple of years ago.

Would love to hear your thoughts

Mark - I saw a candidate for you at Sailfish Point when were visiting friends a couple of weekends ago - Marquis 72 - a beauty!

We went from a 400 Sedan Bridge to the 06 58 and really like the boat - the rear view from the Helm is perfect when docking - and you have a small cut out for viewing the bow when seated -

Has anybody replaced props on a 58 or 550SD? I've pulled mine and they are pitted beyond repair(previous owner and dock electrical issues). Any idea on cost and/or recommended shop? Our are the original Teinbridge 28D x 34P.

Thank you

I thought the originals were 29X37's. They pitted badly and were replaced by Sea Ray with 30X33's. That's what I have now for my two sets. My Dockmate's '05 55DB with CRM-900's has 29X36's...

Thanks I have the smaller MAN 800's (550) hence the smaller size pitch.
Any guidance on shop or cost (generally speaking)?
My local shop in Chicago is going to quote Veems, but i'm flying blind a bit so looking for reference points.

Thanks again,

Ahhh - I should have asked you if had 800's or 900's. My numbers were for CRM-900's. I use General Propeller in Bradenton, and I think they have an online catalog. I've not bought props from them, only had them scanned and balanced by them...

Veems are more expensive then Acmes or Michigan Wheel, but a lot of people say they give better performance. My broker has tested 58DB's with CRM 900's with Veem 29.5X35's and he said there was a 2 kt difference then with Acme 30X33's - but the Veems were about 7K each.

Looks like a great boat and love that full beam master. Looking at them in a while.

So..it has been a while since I visited this board...my company went from 13 to 82 employees last year and even with the current virus shutdown I think 2020 is going to be another great year. Between the Company growing, sending our oldest off to College, and losing my Mom and Dad two months apart to start 2020, it has been a busy time. We put 110 hours on Truly Blessed IV last year with no real issues. Love this boat. We recommissioned two weeks ago and my Kahlenberg Airhorns would only emit a pathetic squeak. Kahlenberg has a rebuild program--ship them your horns and they will recondition for $120. They now sound bad ass again. My sea star steering ram is also leaking-$3800 for a new one. Fortunately, the ram is covered under the extended warranty we bought when we took delivery of the old girl in August 2018. That warranty has more than paid for itself...last season we got a new KVH system covered after the 2007 model conked out. Looking forward to the recreational boating ban to be lifted so we can go burn some diesel!

Great to hear your update Skip! Glad she’s doing well. I had to rebuild my ram in 2018 and it was “fun” to remove/reinstall/bleed. Lucky you - someone else will be doing yours!

Before you remove your Kahlenberg's to send them out, get up on the hardtop and spray WD40 into the air horns. The reeds tend to lock up after some time.
