40 sedan bridge forum

I've seen quite a few posts on engine zincs, but I'm looking for a diagram of where they're located. Thanks so much for anyone that can post or direct me.

Thanks, super helpful. My current boat has shaft zincs as well. I need to find out what zincs the Cats have in them and the gen set is new, a Kohler. All my zincs show a good amout of wear each year. Th tabs the most and the hull the least.
My boat yard tells me that Sea Ray does not like shaft zincs. I would like to put them on anyway. Do you know if you need to have a hole in the shafts to mount the zincs?

No you don't.

My boat has been in salt water 100% of the time for its entire 20 years of its existence. Only gets out of the water for about a week every two years. It's never had shaft zincs and there is not a spec of corrosion anywhere on the shafts or props. The boat was designed not to use shaft zincs.

No shaft zincs one mine.

Also my tabs were R5. I figured give them more eat away. If you full zoom you can see the stern zinc

Starboard battery bank finally bought the farm. Been dreading rebuilding the battery tray underneath them, rotted out from a leaky lazarette hatch scupper. Pretty easy project. I'll order new hold down trays this week to fit the new group 31's. Also did the switch panel light upgrade. Thanks Bill for the great idea and walk through with removing the small transformer. I used 8" Long LED strips in an aluminum housing double stick taped to the back of the panel.

Great job on the battery shelf, Drafter. But you gotta give us some pictures of your backlighting install.

My 410 had them when I bought it, and one slid down into the cutless bearing and luckily I heard the noise and got it removed before it did any damage. As others have said, Sea Ray does not recommend the use of shaft zincs...

If you just have to do it anyway, use nail polish to paint thye zinc around the base of the screws and nut. That way the natural corrosion won't loosen them and allow them to slide down.

There are 3 located in the heat exchanger on the front side of the engine. These were the originals and has square heads painted red.
There is one in the exhaust elbow near the rear of the engine.
The last two on a 3116 is on the the trans cooler. All were pretty obvious. I don't have pictures.

I had 3126's and there were 11 per engine. I recall the 3116 did not have the 5 aftercooler anodes. When you find them all, get a bottle of red nail polish and mark the head bolts of them...

Thanks guys! I dont think I'll mess with the shaft zincs.

Thanks. I'll see if I can find them and mark them for next .change out. I'm surprised there is not a diagram, YouTube, pics somewher . My manual does not even designate them.

These are the lights that I used. My local store only had one pair, so need to pick up another set for the bottom row of switches. The foil tape in the photo peels off, and all 3 are wired to the transformer in the attached photo. The dimmer switch continues to work with the new LEDs. I removed the transformer highlighted with the arrow in the pic, and wired the new lights directly to the old transformer wires. The whole project took maybe 15 minutes, and can be done for about $30 in LED lights.

Smart move! From what I was told, Carter’s experience with them working looses is exactly why SeaRay didn’t recommend them.

Corrected post to state "3116 does not have aftercooler zincs"...

A fellow 400DB owner has rainwater turning brown and running into the guest head shower. Opened the shower access panel and found this looking back Center. White is the windshield frame. Looks like someone tried to smear some caulk in there. Center top is a metal tab up against the white frame. There are several spaced throughout. Several of them are where water is weeping in. Interesting to find the haphazard blocking holding up the top deck. That blocking is moist from the leaking. I'll let you know if I get to the bottom of this and learn anything new.
Hi Bill,
I just noticed today that there is water coming in from the light fixture above the toilet in the guest head. I removed the shower access panel and could see that the light is almost directly below the front windows. Just wondering if you traced the source of the rainwater ingress on the boat you mentioned?

Yes I did. It is the front windshield along the vertical. He bought 55' of new black trim direct from Taylor Made. Just waiting for social distancing to ease before I go pull out the old trim, reseal the window glass and install the new trim.

This appears to be a common problem on the 400DB"s. I have the same leak on mine as well. Do you have the Taylor Made P/N for the trim, and where did you order it?
