500/520 DB official thread

I guess we’re all in the same “boat” my props and tool box are in the same spots plus our bikes are in front of the generator with 3 “large Tupperware “ bins with parts

Are you referring to the bridge/cockpit system or the system in the salon?

My Bose stopped working last year and I kicked the idea around about replacing the head unit only problem is the speaker wiring they are Bose connectors and I didn’t want to cut plugs off or run new wiring so I bought a used subwoofer and it’s fine again.
I did run a set of RCA jacks to the Apollo in the salon for partybus mode so I have the option of Bose for tv/partybus
Through the Bose zones.

There are lots of Bose systems on Ebay for parts. I actually like the Bose system for what it is. I would like to be able to connect my XM Radio from the Bridge to the Aux input on the Bose Lifestyle though.

John:
I think if you replace the Bose Amps and Bose Lifestyle System with a new Stereo Unit and new Amplifiers, run RCA Cables (and maybe a remote turn on wire) between each of the Bose Amplifiers Locations and the "NEW" Stereo Location you will be in business.

All of the Bose speaker wires all go back to the amps.

John you would either need to run RCA’s from your fusion on the bridge to a new amp and then run speaker wiring to the salon speakers. Or retrofit the Bose speaker wiring. Make the salon a seperate zone.
Or install a new fusion In the salon as a stand alone and do the same. Either way you need a new subwoofer and amp I doubt you can retrofit the Bose sub/amp to Fusion.

The bridge area is on a Clarion system by it self.

If I understand what you’re saying I need a new subwoofer & Amp with the new three zone Fusion head.

Is that a sub woofer Amp combination that is under the port side sofa now tied into the Bose Lifestyle 650 or whatever the large deck is in the tv cabinet?

John
Yes, New Head Unit, New Amps and Sub Woofers (if you want them). Along with some new wires run from the New Head Unit to the amps. Probably RCA Cables and a Turn On Wire.

Also the Bose Amps are 120volts so the feed will need to be converted to 12v or Run new 12v wires (depending on amp size it is probably the best option) for the new Amps to the Breaker Panel.

My Bose system is working OK for now but my plan is to replace it with a high quality sound bar such as the Bose soundbar 700. I will add a wireless base module 700 and the wireless Bose surround speakers. (My friends father was an engineer with Bose so she gets me all Bose stuff at 1/2 price) That way I don't need to worry about running new wires in the interior. My Fusion on the bridge has RCA cables run down to the current Bose lifestyle so I can have the same music playing throughout the boat. I think it will be a better solution than a marine unit so that I can integrate the TV with it.

I agree that keeping the Bose or similar system is less work and better suited for the salon than a marine 12vdc system
I would fix what you have and run rca’s to it from your clarion.
You’ll have the ability to play the song throughout the boat.
The Bose subwoofer Is under the port salon couch and has the amp mounted on top of it. If you lose the sound from the Bose it’s usually the amp I found a subwoofer on eBay for $100 took the amp and threw out the subwoofer all fixed. Also I would replace the clarion with a fusion and spend the money on the cockpit speakers, amp etc. we enjoy our music

Jeremy:
How did you connect the Fusion to the Bose? RCA input on the Fusion I guess?

The previous owner had that done so I am not 100% sure but I assume it is RCA because I have to put the Bose on AUX in to play the fusion music.

i didn’t think the Fusion had an output. Maybe via the headphone jack.

Maybe, I would have to look and see how it is tied into the fusion.

Connect rca’s from fusion output to Bose aux input depending on what model Fusion you will use one zone out to the Bose so obviously a 4 zone stereo is better than a 2 line out(zone) one.

That is what I did from my Fusion RA-770. Use top quality cables as in that wire chase is the sonar wiring and that is very "noisy". You will also find that the valance covered in vinyl over the entertainment cabinet pulls out and can be removed (Christmas tree nylon fasteners) and all of the cabling from the bridge can be accessed (school of hard knocks).
Also, you will have to set the Fusion Aux out to fixed level so only the Bose volume will control.

I don't think I have an Output with the UD650.
