The "virus" What are your thoughts

Just read China threatening the US by withholding drugs manufactured there as well as the base compounds for drugs finished here state side.

I will boycott anything made in China. I’ve avoided buying chiwanese made but now I’ll seek to avoid everything possible.

We need to shut off all commerce with China. Bring all manufacturing back here. And the next time someone over there sneezes, close all international transportation with them. F this chit.

I’m headed to Fla next week. Flying on American and staying at a Hilton on the beach.

Unless the Libs declare America... Venezuela.

Yet another reason why I wish my wife would retire.
We would be able to pack a few bags, jump in the car, drive to Florida and hang out in the warm outside air until this is all over.

What really concerns me for the economy is the small businesses. I can see lots of small businesses not surviving these 'temporary' closings and not only will the owners feel it but so will the employees that lose their jobs. The stock market can recover but these small businesses will hurt worse. My bowling league was cancelled for at least the next few weeks. Wonder how the owner will pay his bills? Small businesses still have to pay rent and insurance, among other things. Many can survive a few weeks but if this goes on for months?

Boatman, thank you. Yes we are taking a hit. Bad part for us is its my family. My daughter and her husband help with the work, my youngest does the book work. I gave them all 14 days pay. The two retirement communities we had scheduled work at have postponed all work for 30 days. That puts us 60 days before we see a paycheck. I'm lucky, we have my wife pay still and her health insurance but she is a teacher and it's not enough. Some out going payments will have to wait, something I've never had to do not even after surgery.

I'd like to ask this of all of the SeaRay, all of the boating family, as we go thru these trying times support each other. Support small and local businesses as much as you can.

As I have been saying, this is going to make 2008-09 look like a picnic. Hang tough.

Well, we haven't canceled the trip just yet. We are down the beach, closer to Estero Island. Watching this thing daily now....

This is the best explanation yet why all hoopla:

Coronavirus Science made simple:

Feeling confused as to why Coronavirus is a bigger deal than Seasonal flu? Here it is in a nutshell. I hope this helps. Feel free to share this to others who don’t understand...

It has to do with RNA sequencing.... I.e. genetics.

Seasonal flu is an “all human virus”. The DNA/RNA chains that make up the virus are recognized by the human immune system. This means that your body has some immunity to it before it comes around each year... you get immunity two ways...through exposure to a virus, or by getting a flu shot.

Novel viruses, come from animals.... the WHO tracks novel viruses in animals, (sometimes for years watching for mutations). Usually these viruses only transfer from animal to animal (pigs in the case of H1N1) (birds in the case of the Spanish flu). But once, one of these animal viruses mutates, and starts to transfer from animals to humans... then it’s a problem, Why? Because we have no natural or acquired immunity.. the RNA sequencing of the genes inside the virus isn’t human, and the human immune system doesn’t recognize it so, we can’t fight it off.

Now.... sometimes, the mutation only allows transfer from animal to human, for years it’s only transmission is from an infected animal to a human before it finally mutates so that it can now transfer human to human... once that happens..we have a new contagion phase. And depending on the fashion of this new mutation, thats what decides how contagious, or how deadly it’s gonna be..

H1N1 was deadly....but it did not mutate in a way that was as deadly as the Spanish flu. It’s RNA was slower to mutate and it attacked its host differently, too.

Fast forward.

Now, here comes this Coronavirus... it existed in animals only, for nobody knows how long...but one day, at an animal market, in Wuhan China, in December 2019, it mutated and made the jump from animal to people. At first, only animals could give it to a person... But here is the scary part.... in just TWO WEEKS it mutated again and gained the ability to jump from human to human. Scientists call this quick ability, “slippery”

This Coronavirus, not being in any form a “human” virus (whereas we would all have some natural or acquired immunity). Took off like a rocket. And this was because, Humans have no known immunity...doctors have no known medicines for it.

And it just so happens that this particular mutated animal virus, changed itself in such a way the way that it causes great damage to human lungs..

That’s why Coronavirus is different from seasonal flu, or H1N1 or any other type of influenza.... this one is slippery AF. And it’s a lung eater...And, it’s already mutated AGAIN, so that we now have two strains to deal with, strain s, and strain L....which makes it twice as hard to develop a vaccine.

We really have no tools in our shed, with this. History has shown that fast and immediate closings of public places has helped in the past pandemics. Philadelphia and Baltimore were reluctant to close events in 1918 and they were the hardest hit in the US during the Spanish Flu.

Factoid: Henry VIII stayed in his room and allowed no one near him, till the Black Plague passed...(honestly...I understand him so much better now). Just like us, he had no tools in his shed, except social isolation...

And let me end by saying....right now it’s hitting older folks harder... but this genome is so slippery...if it mutates again (and it will). Who is to say, what it will do next.

Be smart folks... acting like you’re unafraid is so not sexy right now.

VP Pence: So, they're saying coronavirus is now officially a pandemic.
President Trump: Who says?
VP Pence: Yes
President Trump: Who did?
VP Pence: Of course that's their job.
President Trump: Whose job?
VP Pence: Exactly
President Trump: And what is the name of the organization?
VP Pence: Not what WHO
President Trump: That's what I am trying to find out. :D:D:D:D

They thought they could twist our arm with that threat during trade negotiations also.

Well, just found out my Godfather who is in his 70's got it. He's in ICU in IL right now. Not good.

Here's a brief video my daughter sent me last week when I started asking questions. (she's a pharmacologist). It's pictures that go with your words. And disgusting.

Well, we haven't canceled the trip just yet. We are down the beach, closer to Estero Island. Watching this thing daily now....

They just announced all bars and nightclubs closing at 5pm today for thirty days. No more than 10 people together on the beach. Also major restaurant cutbacks.

Sorry to hear that. I think we are all going to start to hear of people we know and love falling ill from it. Let's hope it does not become as bad as it may.

FL needed to get on board. Apparently some of those still in denial?? have taken the opportunity to go down there and family vacation there with children that have been sent home from school in order to social distance. Just what isn't supposed to be happening. No wonder the president is begging the younger generation to respect the requirements.

When this is over, Trump better bitch slap those motherf'rs.

While he’s at it he should get the folks truly responsible, Wall Street. If the stock investing world didn’t demand earnings over all there wouldn’t be pressure on companies to find the lowest cost producers. Similarly, if the US was less litigious, then management wouldn’t be petrified of stock holder suits over failure of fiduciary responsibility because they opt to not follow a low cost supplier. Simply put the management of a public US company that pulled out of a low cost manufacturer in favor of a higher cost one would be crucified. So in short, if you own stock, or a stock fund, get in line to get slapped. But then as long the average consumer prefers cut rate stuff, manufacturing is never coming back to the US and they deserve a back hand as well.

I could only find 2 far fight websites saying this. One was posted Feb 20th both articles did not accuse China of doing this but said they COULD if they wanted to.
