The "virus" What are your thoughts

Sitting in the only state in the US without a confirmed case of Corona Virus...WV! (At least for now at 9:35 on March 15..could change the next minute!)
We have a confirmed case in Washington county, PA, which is very close to the WV border so it shouldn't be long now. Not hoping for it but just sayin'...

I live in a small town of about 8000 people and we have 2 grocery stores the majority shop at. The one is about 250'x250' and never more than about 20 people in there at a time. This morning there was a line of people at the door 30 minutes before they opened

In the last week in my area local restaurants reported about 75% reduction in business. Past few days they have been trying to do curbside pickup or free delivery. Some are starting to close all together.

There is a chance that this level of shutdown turns out to be a massive mistake since the data is so unreliable at this point (for a variety of reasons). But better safe than sorry.

You can go to a basic restaurant with the proper precautions. If you elderly or immune compromised, stay home. Otherwise bring you wipes and hand sanitizer, don’t cough on anyone, don’t join a crowd, and enjoy dinner. Closing these places will cause a ripple effect of epic proportions. Govt was worried about paid time for people who got sick. Now what.

Typical nonsense from the Capitan who claims to be in the health profession but needed to learn from Club Sea Ray that his son had a stomach bug. I'm glad you believe the WHO. Perhaps you should write them for info on e coli. FYI, the CDC is not on the ground in China.

The CDC set up the public health system in China in the 80’s under Reagan. Look it up Einstein.

I went to see my cardiologist thurs for a follow up after an ICD implant, he said, and I quote, "Stay away from crowds" He trained at the MAYO clinic BTW, he also knew that my wife had a total colectomy done a few years back, i.e. large intestine removed , looked at her and said, "same for you as well", I'll take his advice over any wanna be doctor on this site.....

Ewwww. An ICD! I know exactly what that is. I have 3 clinical cardiology credentials and understand why you have it too.

I'm not hysterical at all buddy, I just see things different because of the facts I've read and am experiencing, i.e., the airline industry......Don't think this industry is not going to effect you, if you do, your more blind than I thought.....Just saying, I wish you well however....

Geez... spending time w you is hazardous to other people’s health apparently. Try not being such a di@$ yourself. Those you care about will certainly be better off for it. Do it for them.

All "Dine in restaurants and bars" are closed tomorrow evening in IL. Drive thru/delivery will be open.

Yeah but fat ass Pritzker can go eat anytime anywhere. Seen him lately?
Societies deserve the government they elect. Illinois is California in the making.

“A cautionary tale from Italy: Don’t do what we did. Many of us were too selfish to follow suggestions to change our behavior. Now we’re in lockdown and people are needlessly dying”

-Italy has been on lock down since March 9th. Its estimated that the outbreak is 10-16 days behind Italy in the US. There are 45,000 ICU beds in the US. Even in a mild outbreak, 200,000 people will need ICU treatment.

What CDC is Doing in China

CDC has supported China CDC’s national influenza laboratory for more than 20 years. CDC works in close partnership with the China CDC’s National Influenza Epidemiology, Virology, and Pandemic Preparedness Centers, China’s provincial and local CDCs, hospitals, and academic institutions. CDC supports Chinese partners in monitoring seasonal and novel influenza viruses, as well as enhancing efforts to detect and respond to seasonal, avian, and other novel influenza viruses with pandemic potential. With the establishment of the Chinese National Influenza Surveillance Network, China now has advanced capabilities to monitor and assess the risk of influenza viruses circulating in China, to collect evidence about influenza disease burden and vaccine effectiveness, and to share data with the international community.

CDC’s key supporting activities include:

  • Strengthening influenza surveillance for seasontryal and novel influenza viruses
  • Conducting research to estimate disease burden and vaccine effectiveness among populations at greatest risk (including young children, older adults and pregnant women)
  • Promoting influenza vaccination policy development and coverage
  • Supporting novel virus risk assessments
  • Establishing pandemic influenza preparedness in China
  • Maintaining close ties between U.S. and China influenza experts

Wrong.

you are quoting propaganda from the CDC website. Try this: https://www.nytimes.com/2020/02/07/health/cdc-coronavirus-china.html

Good Morning. Hope everyone has a Safe and Healthy day. Take care of your family and extended families. Things are changing daily and no one really knows exactly what degree this illness will challenge us with tomorrow. Many officials say things will get worse before they get better. So educate and prepare for the worse and hope for the better. With any luck this will be over in 2-3 weeks and we can get back to our regular routines.

The damage they have done by creating a panic is going to last more than a few weeks.

We’re suppose to go to Ft. Meyers Beach this Sunday for a week as a family. (Spring Break) Looking at the website of the hotel nothing has changed. That would suck to get down there and then everything shuts down.

And that is certainly a possibility, as we just don't know. This thing is one day at a time as reports, number of cases and restrictions are changing hourly. The first Maryland known case has been released and fully recovered. So that is certainly a positive note. All I am seeing on this thread is everyone pointing fingers and no one looking out for each other. Think of what you can do to help those who in need such as assisting an elderly neighbor with daily activities. Mail, groceries, picking up items they need while you are out to minimize their exposure. If we all pitch in and stop gripping about restrictions and shutdowns there may even be something positive to come of this, like meet a new friend and / or actually make a difference no matter how small it may seem.

I have a buddy on north side of Tampa. Talked to him this morning. He said it’s crazy there to. Everything shut down except snowbirds trying to get home.

I'm going to make some calls down there this week.

We had a trip planned up and down the west coast of FL that has been on the books for some time.

Canceled that trip last week.
