Analog to nmea2000 04’ sundancer 6CTA 450 diamond new electronics

Thank You. After hearing those issues, I’m glad I went this route. I did hear Viking just purchased approximately 400 pieces of various connections and components from Actisense. So it looks promising in a sense...or maybe I am reading into it too much. But either way. Time will tell.
I hope you have gone through the threads some of us have posted on getting analog signals converted to NMEA 2000. Understanding the bias to ground voltage vs no bias to ground voltage, vs 0-5 volts is important as well as how to deal with the issues with temperature thermistors for exponential non-linear signals. Unless they have "come out of the closet", none of the product manufacturers tell these details. The accuracy of your measurement is completely dependent on understanding these details and being capable to program the constants / formulae into the device.
Use caution on promoting a product without any application experience.
Pretty much all marine electronics produced after 2008 are NMEA 2000 compliant so I would be skeptical of any relationship with these devices to what Viking boats are doing.

I actually talked to Skybolt before purchasing and understanding what he had done. Its a labor of love to say the least.

where are you on this, I am about to pull the trigger and want to make a decision on what units to buy to get my engine data to my Garmin 8616.

Hey sorry for the late reply. It has been put on the back burner for a few months with holidays and business travel consuming my few weeks back.

I will be working on this in the coming weeks and will report back to you and others. Just had a starter go out, so I’ve been consumed with that and other little pitty things. But will get back on course as it is on my to do list when I install the new MFD’s in the coming weeks.

thanks again for your patience guys!!!

Any progress?

No sir not yet. Just wrapped up screen install and oil changes and filters. I need to install the new radar and then I should be ready for this setup. The plan is to monitor the mechanical gauges as well as the on screen gauges to make sure my programming is correct.

I should be able to report back to the group later next month.

On the other hand this boat will be on the market as soon as I finish all the updates to it. So if anyone is in the market for a completely updated 2004 420 sundancer let me know.

With the pandemic and all, did you ever complete this?

also, did you sell the boat? I have a friend looking for a 2004 hardtop...

I did sell her before I could get the conversion done. Was hard to pass up a sellers market. I do have all the necessary electronics to get the conversion done. Just need to sell those pieces as the new owner was not interested in tackling the project.

apologize, I was never able to complete it. On the other hand time to find another boat :) to fix.

The G2’s looks too intimidating. And I’m an EE! It’s just overly complicated and the tools aren’t there to easily allow users to configure it. I like doing upgrades, but I don’t want a project like that on my boat.

The Noland RS11 looks a lot easier to implement, although the linearity of their calculations is ridiculous. Not sure why they think that’s reasonable for non linear devices? All I truly want at the helm are solid tach and engine temp readings. Anything else is a bonus. And I can network fuel tank sensors or fuel flow filters; they aren’t part of a sensor box.
