The "virus" What are your thoughts

Yes Trump pats himself on the back any chance he gets. Would I do that? No. Does that make him a bad person? Nope. He has accomplished more in 3 years than any other President could do in 8 years. The whole ACA was a mess from the beginning and experts warned of this. The only ones it benefits are the non-workers. I pay $1100/month through my company for healthcare for me and my wife. I used to pay about $150 before Obamacare and now I have a $5000 deductible instead of the $1000 it used to be.

As for the market...it was so top heavy that if Trump farted wrong it would tumble. It has been averaging about 40% increase per year the last few years. We are now at about a 25% pullback, maybe 8 months worth. Anybody that knows anything about the market knows you need pullbacks and corrections to get fresh money in. So couple the market being top heavy, the 'pandemic' and the effect on commerce and revenues magnifies this pullback. Perfect storm type of scenario.

That statement is debatable at the least..... You pay 110$ a month for you and your wife?? Try 800$ for my wife and myself and get back to us...… But then again, I don't live in Shitsburg anymore and thank GOD for that.....

And lets not forget the so called payroll tax that this idiot wants to pass.....guess where those funds come from....Do you even know?? I'll help you, social security...…. Unacceptable ……..

I think if you go back to the beginning of this thread, I gave my opinion of HHS and DHHS. Unfortunately, they have not proven me wrong.

You can assess the level of competence in that department, yourself.

Though, I see this thread has become political, and I want to be clear about something. You can not point the finger at any specific party. If it makes you feel good to blame Trump or Obama, so be it, but the issue is with the career civil servants that make it through every four years and become more and more complacent.

The guidance and the testing issue weren't created in this administration. It's been handed down and presumed preparedness over many political cycles. We would likely have had similar shortcomings under Obama. (Though, perhaps he would have accepted tests from the international community). We need to come together to solve this problem. And @susanandlance , as much as you might not want to hear it, this waste and complacency (swamp) was exactly what Trump was talking about when he ran for office. I presume you are far from DC inner beltway, so good for you....But, respectfully, you don't understand. If we don't get together behind this President then we have no chance for change. We need to get united.

Now, if you take that to mean I'm happy with the Fed. response, that's not my message. Trump is an abysmal orator. Obama was a great orator and a smooth talker. Would I prefer Obama right now, not likely. Trump is taking action with the infrastructure he has.

If you remember, while he was campaigning and while in office, he has strived to bring manufacturing back to the US. @susanandlance - Do you disagree? This was one of the reasons. He recognizes it is a national security issue. As is controlling our borders. Foreign nations have courted our leaders and businesses away and made us vulnerable. Why do you think there is guidance from CDC not to wear masks, because they aren't effective in helping protect you? Hell no....If we had the masks for our population, we would be making it mandatory like other countries with supplies. We don't have the manufacturing in this country to deal with this timely. The countries without supplies are the only ones giving the guidance because they need them for clinicians and other responders. Basically, you're low on the list. I'm not arguing the point. it's fact. (Further, interesting side point, clinicians in hospitals in several states have said some of their masks have been stolen)

So, this is where we are - A Fed. gov't, with all the tax payers money over decades and decades to fund these administrations (HHS) and prepare, fail at the basic level of pandemic. TESTING. It's a fail. I mean seriously, did they honestly think a procedure where all test have to go to them was going to work? They have no capacity at the scale of a pandemic and they've known it.

If we don't have testing and surveillance, then we don't have the data to contain. If we don't contain, we see exponential growth and our systems will become overloaded. That's why you see every Gov. and every leader cancelling everything. They just presume cases and know we are no different than any other nation. Contrary to Trump saying our system is the greatest, talk to nurses and docs. in the hospitals and get back to me....Also, ask them how many ventilators the have. Now, these measures will help flatten the curve, but it might just be temporary.

So, what to do.

1. Do not accept the failure out of the Feds., Testing - Fail; Masks - Fail;but do not blame Trump.
2. Listen to Dr. Fauci.

I wish Dr. Fauci was a decision maker and not simply in his role at NIH and a player in the task force. He does it well, but he would be my best candidate for directing this mess.

Man, I certainly hope we don't fail with vents; beds; and caregivers

This was exactly my point given last Tuesday in posting 299.

I just did a very poor job of making it.

Reminder - I am an Independent who sees many failings of both parties.

If we as a country can learn from this while we are still in the moment, then maybe we can come together before the divide gets too great - 1860ish.

There is absolutely no logical justification for open borders. This is the last nail in the coffin of that argument. Sorry Ms Pelosi. It’s over.

The case for home manufacturing of a large proportion of our goods is stronger to the point of giving tax incentives to manufacturers on the basis of national security. Many pundits have warned of setting up an national tax/regulatory basis that forces basic manufacturing to the control of other countries, especially when those countries are not even an ally. Absolutely no sense. Sorry Barack. Bad idea.

At some point, a logically thinking Democrat must get a grip on the House and realize that we all live here and want the best for our children. The national election put a Republican in the White House and a Republican controlled Senate. It is now your turn to bow to the will of the people and work within a reasonable amount instead of bucking and fighting on everything. If the next national election reverses the parties, I would expect the same of the Republicans. Work together. Give in on some of your Democrat ideals with certain lines you will not cross.

We all need to get a good reminder of why it is a bad idea to give government control of our healthcare. Can you imagine a nationalized healthcare system during a pandemic when we have the current political climate? This government can’t even agree on what to call this virus because the accusations of xenophobia or racism, much less on the proper care practices. Let’s leave the healthcare in the hands of good ole doctors and efficiency minded hospital administrators.

I am guessing that is his payroll contribution, his company probably picks up the balance 80% or so.

You act like that even matters. Money is fungible and since they have used the SS money for general spending, it don't make a rat's ass bit of difference.

We have been thru how many global crises in the past 20 years? From 9/11, SARS, MARS, Bird flu, swine flu, etc. ect. We never learn. I am afraid we won't learn this time, especially if Trump loses.

Supposed to say $1100/month. Fixed it. And 'Shitsburgh' has nothing to do with it. Company I work for is based out of Texas and it's through Cigna. When I started they had United Healthcare and it was even higher.

And cutting any taxes is good. Here is a novel ideal...let's cut some spending instead of increasing taxes. Let's start by limiting welfare to 1 or 2 years max. And while you are on welfare no pregnancies or you are cut off. A known lady was in front of me yesterday at the store and said she had 12 kids and it is well known she has been on welfare her whole life (she is 51 now). I would guess that at least 70% of those on welfare are perfectly capable of working but thanks to the free government programs they are further ahead living off the working class. There is Trumps tax cut.

What do you think would happen if Bernie makes it in? Who will pay for the free college, free healthcare, etc. that he is promising? By the time I pay my healthcare and taxes my paycheck would be negative. I'd probably be further ahead quitting my job and going on welfare.

Oh, and my company pays about $150/month of my healthcare so total is about $1250/month, of which $1100 is out of my pocket. Actually it's $1022/month to be exact.

And you need a Snickers or something. Every post on here you are name calling or bashing. Geeesh. Bad childhood?

I don’t get it... do you hate the country or your life? ... get in the conversation and add value... This is a boating forum and a really good one... why don’t you post and try to make it better?

That correction makes a lot of difference, I'm like dang, are they hiring?? All good Boatman, and FWIW, I don't support Bernie, and my childhood was awesome:D And more importantly, I LOVE this country, I wave my flag 24/7 out front and it always has a light on it, and I served this great country 8 yrs of my life:D

So I am not a Trump hater by all means. But his "do as I say, not as I do" attitude certainly is at the least questionable. He has had DIRECT contact with now - 3 - dinner guests that have been diagnosed with the virus. Why is he not required to "self quarantine" or being quarantined for the 14 days as he is requiring anyone else in the same circumstance to do. Is this the above the law disposition we see in other matters as well? Just sayin.

Good question you bring up Korkie, I heard he was going to be tested soon

Because he’s Superman. :)

One of the guys he was with tested negative. Last night ABC tv said positive and at the same time ABC website said negative. I am sure he’s being monitored closely. And is a germaphobe. Probably has been tested. He’s an optimist and doesn’t want to accentuate the panic.

Superman?? That's funny right there Golf:D

Look, Trump hasn't caused this market crash, however I wonder if he has made it worse than it was going to be, probably not but we'll never know. Hang on and be safe out there everyone, this mess is just getting started......

I would venture to say he has been tested already. There's many top secret things government will never admit to.
