So today my wife saw a $130 charge on my account saying it was from Gander Mountain. I knew I hadn't ordered from them. Called the bank and they confirmed the charge so I told them I did not order anything from them so they cancelled the charge and cancelled my card. Now I have to go to the bank in the morning and get a new card then call next week to get it activated. So after that called Gander Mountain. Turns out I ordered a new shower sump for my boat from them April 2019 that they never charged me for so decided today to take that money with no notification. I told them good luck cause I had to cancel my card now. I have no problem paying them and will pay for my stuff but they should have contacted me first. Very poor business practice. I emailed their customer service with my complaint. I will pay for my part from a year ago but won't be ordering from them again. If I had no money in there they could have bounced something. Aren't checks only good for 6 months? Not trying to get out of paying for it. I will call them next week when the new card is activated but just not happy about the time I have to waste due to their poor business practice.

Gander Mountain has been out of business for a couple of years now. Do you mean gander Outdoors?

Yeah. I still cal

l still call them Gander Mountain but same place

They will have a merchant agreement with the card issuer that governs that timeline. Google Visa Merchant Agreement (or Mastercard or Discover or whatever). They publish their merchant agreements, so you can file a complaint or submit an inquiry. It will take a bit of research but you can probably find the rules.

Fully agree it's a bad business practice.

Not worried about trying to get out of paying it. Just complaining about how they are going about it.

Gander closed all the retail outlets that they could not also sell RV's at, was the story the manager at a closing store told us last year. . But yes, prick an mortar retail is going extinct. And just think, with a little forward thinking, the Sears catalog could have been what Amazon is today.

I believe Gander is owned by Overtons now.
With a little research I see Camping world bought them in 2017. That explains a lot, if Camping World bought them.

Several years ago I had a large scratch on my boat repaired by a local fiberglass company.
A month or two went by, and my wife said the check hadn't cashed. I called them, and after a few more days they said they had misplaced it, so I got them some cash and dropped it off.
He wouldn't have even known they were missing that payment had I not called. He sent me $100 in gift cards from a restaurant for our honesty, then found the check a long time later.
Had my wife not kept an eye on it, who knows if they would have ever found it.

Yes, Gander Moutain went bankrupt, sold all inventory and closed the stores. Camping World bought the bankruptcy assets and reopened some stores with a combination of outdoor sporting goods, fishing and marine, and RVs and equipment. Camping World also owns Overtons as well as specialty outdoor retailers Uncle Dan's and Rock Creek. They.are now in the process of moving away from the outdoor business and divesting those companies to focus on RV sales. Their move with your credit card.may have been an attempt to recoup cash that they discovered in an audit, and don't care about then brand reputation of an asset they may sell. The CEO is Marcus Lemonis who you see on TV.

A friend of mine worked for a distributor in the industry and was telling me that Gander Mountain was in trouble for a long time. They werent paying their bills and vendors were cutting them off. I have hearing this at least 3 years before they went out of business. The entire industry went through huge expansion with the growth of Cabelas and Bass Oro, and is now contracting.

I agree, Sears already had the mailing list and popularity. Had they digitalized
Amazon would have never been on top.

Yeah they responded to my email complaint last night so in response I mentioned that Marcus probably wouldn't approve of this...lol. They responded back again this morning saying basically too bad. They said they tried calling or emailing all affected customers but I know they didn't call (or at least leave a voicemail) and if they emailed then it went to my spam folder and got deleted. No harm done in the end. There was more than enough in the account that there were no issues there just that I had to take the time to cancel my card, went to my bank this morning to get a new card and have to call Tuesday to activate it then call them back to have them re-run the charge on it. Just a hassle that I shouldn't have to deal with due to bad business.
