My 1989 300 WE has three batteries in a single row between the engines. All 3 batteries have have threaded studs and conventional large diameter lead posts on both positive and negative. All of the connections are made to the threaded studs with the positive cables having your typical plastic boot that would provide some insulation if you get them to stay in the proper orientation. However the lead posts aren't covered by anything. Is there some sort of a boot available that would cover both the threaded stud and the post? Or a plastic cover that would cover the entire battery?

Schwarz, good on you for being proactive with this. Of note is that you really only "have to" (according to the CG) make sure the positive terminals are protected.

Jim - good finds. And, really, any of those options can work to satisfy the requirement. Those flexible, large rectangular ones... those can usually be stretched just a bit to cover both terminals. Slit the round part to slip it over the cable, then zip tie or tape it back closed.

By the way, if you currently have wingnuts on those threaded posts, switch them out to nylocs. Ideally, convert to clamps and use the lead posts as that's a better connection - but the threaded posts are OK.

I have purchased (3) Attwood 9067-1 battery boxes. Hopefully it won't be too difficult to get down in there to remove existing and install new hold down anchors.
