Can someone verify that my batteries are set up properly. I recently bought the boat and I have 2 starting and 1 house. When facing the engine compartment to the aft, the current set up is a starting on the left, house in the middle, and starting on the right. Is this correct?

I also want to add another house so I'm assuming I can just parallel it with the other one. This means that one alternator will be charging one starter and the other alternator would be charging the other starter and both house?

Lastly, what's the correct use of the switches? One switch says 1/2/BOTH/OFF and the other one says ON/OFF.

Thanks for your input.

Please post up a picture of the current set up.

From your description it sounds like you have a stand alone battery on one engine and then 2 batteries that can be tied together to start the other engine and supply the house 12v.

When on the hook for an extended period of time I would turn the selector switch to 1 or 2 so the second battery stays charged to start the engine.

You probably also have an emergency switch on the dash so just in case the dual battery bank is discharged completely you can start that engine by pushing the emergency switch.

Assume nothing , you could also have a isolator system for all the batteries . post a pic of the rear of the alt to see if the wirings been altered
Usually you have 2 switches that say 1-both-2-off

The standard switch configuration on my 280 is 1 switch (1 battery) = On/OFF, The second switch (2 batteries) 1/2/Both/Off

hope this helps...
