The "virus" What are your thoughts

Two of my daughters are nurses at hospitals and I have a daughter in law that is a PRN. Listening to their protocols, procedures and testing for the corona virus I am not buying this woman's story ….There has to be more to the story

I'm not sure why you don't buy her story. As I'm sure you know, health depts. are state by state and hospitals setup their own protocols. So, while it's great to hear your family has confidence and has things under control, it's still likely that what this woman has written is truthful. She is simply telling people her docs, she as well, wanted her tested, and it didn't happen. She's not claiming she contracted it. What's so unbelievable? I wonder if you would not buy a story if it was your daughter making the statement.

Please keep us informed if you learn anything from your family. They will be on the front lines if it hits in their area. Out of curiosity, where do they work (city, state)?

Community North in Indianapolis and the other is in Denver Colorado. We just had our first case in Indy last night and they sent him home for quarantine… interesting it didn't count on the national reporting.
I get the state by state protocols...there is a huge difference between Indy and Colorado. I just think there is more to the story with this woman.

Thanks for sharing that. It is a mystery to me why otherwise intelligent people, suspend all pretense of critical thinking when it comes to politics. I get why the media does it. They're looking for clicks.

I think it's unfortunate that those words would ever be uttered from The President's mouth ...in whatever context. Knowing full well the media will exploit them. He is not just a man ..he is POTUS. He should rise above the pettiness and lead the entire nation. The office of President calls for that. I don't believe he recognizes the power and importance of his position or his words. Nor do I believe he cares.

Not looking for an argument. I know how you feel. This is how I feel. That's it.

Thanks.

I think Denver will be a city to watch...Please keep us posted if you hear something from them as testing increases.

Are you speaking of this case - "Marion County, IN, US"

Regarding this woman, she is only one of I think four independent stories I've heard in different states regarding the testing issue.

To put it into perspective, S Korea has tested close to 140k and we've tested maybe 1k.

The supply side impact to our economy is real. When companies cannot receive products for manufacturing or retail, there will be economic impact.

As a country, we are accustom to economic impact driven by demand (whether business or consumer).

This is a very different situation, not a demand driven - rather a supply driven.

When was the last time we faced Supply side constraints?

Perhaps WW2?

Exactly, that’s what I came up with. The amount of national spending on bullets and the fervor of a common caused got us through it.
That’s when we made stuff here, and the but the production was shifted to war materiel, too. Things were being produced just not for consumers. This is going to be quite a different scenario.

1973 Gas Crisis.

UPDATE: co-worker and his family in NY got their results back and they are good. The doctor that treated the infected attorney was good too.

As far as stocks...I'm all cash and will be looking for a bottom and adding in as we go back up

I bought May expiration call options in CLX (Clorox) a few days ago and have sold all but 1 but yesterday I was up about 400% on that one. Also bought some shares of the stock and sold most of it already.

Great call!

The economy today resembles nothing like WWII or the gas crisis in 1973. We are a services economy not a manufacturing economy. AI, machine learning, robotics, smart devices are the work force in this economy.

Supply chain disruption in high tech and software will have little impact.

The supply chain disruptions will be felt more in consumables.

Again, this is a flu that’s over hyped by social media, instant access to information, politicizing, conspiracy theorists, and people predisposed to fear.

People fear the unknown and many don’t either have access to facts and statistics or are gullible and believe what they read in the newspapers or on retail media outlets.

It’s a flu virus. They all mutate, constantly. It’s almost impossible to kill a virus. You can grow virus in a beaker of alcohol.

Hand sanitizer kills bacteria not all viruses.

Far far more people caught and died from H1N1 and nobody panicked and ran out to stock up on bottled water.

There is a lot of debate right now whether China is actually recovering production or just trying build image.

What % of products in Walmart or Target - or Lowes are sourced from China? I don't know the number but suspect it is fairly high.

Material I have read (on the Internet so it must be accurate) is that supply chains for major retailers will start to be disrupted in late March through April timeframe.

What happens when a Walmart is half empty? Do they close? What is their inventory threshold?

@FootballFan you hit the nail on the head. My wife handles international logistics for a major retailer and there is very limited amounts being shipped from China.

My advice - buy what you need now if it's made in China. The supply chain has been disrupted on a majority of goods and it'll take time to normalize once China has ramped back up.

My concern isn't the virus as much it is the panic the media is trying to create.

CNN has now 'officially classified' this virus as a 'pandemic.' There you have it, contact CNN with all your questions and concerns....they're the experts ya' know.

Makes the case this administration made 3 years ago about China.

We should evacuate the entire supply chain out of China. People are starting to realize just how many items and substances are made in China including the base elements of our antibiotics.

Hopefully people realize the dangers of globalization.

KAGA.

Finally someone highly intelligent looked at the big picture.

I am a registered Independant. No love for any party. But the hypocrisy is indescribable.
1. This admin has been trying to bring manufacturing home for years. Getting resistance.
2. This admin has been trying to become energy independent. Getting resistance.
3. This admin has been trying to control the borders. Getting resistance.
4. The very same people criticizing the “poor” government response to preventing the global spread of a virus are the very same people who are screaming to allow the same government to control all of health care.

My head hurts listening to the news. It is like a car wreck. I just gotta look at it when I go by even though I know the carnage I will see.

Moving away from politics and back to facts for a moment, one of my clients just suspended all outside visitors to their facilities, and my son's alma mater just suspended all face to face instruction and is switching to remote instruction through at least April 12th. They are allowing all students to return home should they choose to, and are requiring any students travelling to countries with CDC Level 2 or Level 3 travel warnings to report their travel to the school.

One of my employee's spouse works for Dell, and they are encouraging all staff who are capable of working from home to do so through at least March 24th.
