The "virus" What are your thoughts

Update:
His daughter was in an area that wasn’t affected, however it is my understanding that the school has travel insurance on their students and wanted them to return by this Friday because of what's happening. She’s been traveling for three days. When ISU announced this, she was actually in Hungary. So she flew back to Florence on Monday, packed her stuff, left Tuesday and sat in Amsterdam. Then flew out of Amsterdam arriving yesterday evening. There were no checks, no temperatures taken, nothing. She has no symptoms, etc. The school requested that the students do a 14 day self quarantine.
We were just in the Atlanta airport, twice. How many international flights arrive daily there? I'm not trying to justify this in my head, but it's a valid question.

I appreciate all of your real world experience. It's a bit different than what the talking points are from the media and gov't.

My understanding regarding the travel "bans" / "flights" in Italy is that they are for specific regions. I'm not sure the requested 14 day self-quarantine is sufficient. It seems people are testing positive outside the window before symptoms are showing.

So many unknowns at this point.

The HIMSS healthcare IT conference i was to attend was just cancelled. Although risk level could be argued, given there were going to be 50k people consisting of worldly traveled vendors and healthcare professionals from mostly hospitals, it seemed in good taste to cancel and not put it on the vendors. I had a call with my team this morning announcing we would make a decision by EOD on putting 25 people in a booth at HIMSS. Glad I didn't have to make that call, which likely would have been to stay home, but still happy i didn't have to.
Now onto the next call to figure out what HIMSS and AMEX travel is going to do for reimbursements.

@spikedaddy99 and others, it's really helpful to provide links to sources when you can.

I'm not sure I would make the claim that the virus mutated this quickly. I do agree that it's been reported that there are at least two strains of this virus. It could be that one already existed and now is being tested for. It could also be that two strains were released. No one knows where these strains came from at this point.

Many have misguidedly attributed the market sell off to Corona.

The market sell off was due to Bernie Sanders’ seemingly and over hyped by the media, inevitability as the Democratic Socialist candidate.

The market has come roaring back and corona is still spreading.

Corona had minimal cause and effect.
Just my opinion, traders love volatility,
They make money trading. Dosen’t matter if it’s BERNIE, virus, Iran, etc. Hopefully we Make money off those trades . In the end it’s a mute point if your feet doesn’t hit the floor in the morning.

VP Pence just said on Reuters that the US doesn't have enough test kits to check the amount of possible virus carriers expected..... Pretty scary as his BOSS thinks he's got it covered...…. Be safe out there everyone!!l

Guy I work with lives somewhere near the Bronx. I work from home so have never met him in person. Anyway he told us today that there is an attorney in NY that just got it and that attorneys doctors kids go to the same school as my co-workers kids. He said they shut the school down to clean it. He said his whole family got tested and will get the results tomorrow. Longshot that he or his family got it but he wants to be sure. He works from home too so said he will be staying in the house as much as possible

It’s a a cold virus ....we need to settle down.

80,000 people die of seasonal flu in a year no one says a word.

A new flu made in China and all of a sudden the Libs are screaming it’s The End and el stupidos are out buying bottled water.

Airline CEO's are saying this virus is having a post 9/11 effect on them, when the airlines take a hard hit almost everything will follow, just like 9/11.

I just think some of you might want to read this.
Two of my daughters are nurses at hospitals and I have a daughter in law that is a PRN. Listening to their protocols, procedures and testing for the corona virus I am not buying this woman's story ….There has to be more to the story

Just listened to a radio show where the host decided to dig into and find out as many facts as possible. And weed out the opinions. His top level summary is it's less threatening than the flu and if you are under 70 you have nothing to fear at all. He rattled off a bunch of facts associated with it. So, it could just be a big fear, uncertainty and doubt scam. I guess we will find out.

And/or do not have underlying illness especially undiagnosed. I have read that undiagnosed or untreated diabetes has been the #1 underlying issue. Heart issues and high blood pressure follows with cancer after that.

Very true. I commute to my corporate flying job via airlines. What has always been a route with full (maybe 2-6 open seats) the other day was half full at best. Looking at my return flight and I have a choice of 80% open seats. Wide body aircraft are being parked around the world. And as you referenced, all the other aspects that goes with travel grinding down - hotels, restaurants, convention centers, taxi's and Ubers, local tax funds driven by the above......poof, all gone.

Guess what American Airlines stock is doing.

And Delta Airlines

Do we see a pattern with stock prices dropping on HUGE volume?

Larry Kudlow is already signaling an airline stimulus package..... Not a good sign.... I'm sure a lot of people will have a fit over the stimulus package.... Let'em go under just like GM, yea, let'em go under and prices will sky rocket as your choice of travel in the air won't exist......

The supply side impact to our economy is real. When companies cannot receive products for manufacturing or retail, there will be economic impact.

As a country, we are accustom to economic impact driven by demand (whether business or consumer).

This is a very different situation, not a demand driven - rather a supply driven.

When was the last time we faced Supply side constraints?
