Cummins QSM11
My QSM's are apart for cooler and exhaust manifold maintenance and I was looking at the OEM air filters. They look to be original and probably should be replaced. There appear to be three options for the filters:
Walker Air Sep (left) $$$$
Racor Cummins OEM (right) $$$
Seaboard Marine S&B (center) $
Anyone changed theirs and any advise to offer (especially in noise silencing)?
Thanks
Tom

Myself and a friend replaced ours on both boats with the seaboard filters and after 4 seasons they are holding up like their new I clean and oil them annually and I can’t tell that they’re aftermarket. Well built in my opinion.

I replaced mine with the Seaboard filters last winter and they seem to be well made. I only have 1 season and 120hrs on them but they are holding up well so far. I am not sure I noticed much silencing effect from them.

Tom,
I've been using these https://www.filtereze.com/ for over 10 years with my Walker's and really like them. They don't do anything for noise but they make the annual cleaning a lot easier.

The Seaboard ones are ordered - Thanks!
Joe - I really like those socks; I'm going to get some when I get the filters and can measure them. Hope things are well with you!

Thanks Joe,

They have them for my MANs and I'm going to order 4 (yes, two turbos each engine).

Those look nice.
Any restriction of air flow?
How do you clean the socks?
Do you just clean and oil the filters like normal and then slide these socks over them?

I'd be interested in your impression of them once you fit them to your MANs, please let me know if you think they're worth it.

I’ll be glad too. It will be May before I measure and order. My air cleaners don’t really get that dirty though. My “MAN man” cleans them every other year.

I also ordered and installed (2) new Seaboard Marine Air-filters. The filters removed seemed like the originals. They were dirty but did not show any degradation in the inside (of the filter body) as Seaboard suggested typically happens.

The Turbo Fins looked good to me, a little dirty but no pitting.

The Seaboard filter fit well. I called Seaboard and they did NOT suggest oiling the filter. Said it wasn’t necessary although cleaning the filter yearly of course is.

Also changed the Racor’s fuel filters in both engines and Generator. She feels pretty clean right now.
