As many of you know I have not been able to be as active here as I have been in the past. However I have participated in a lot of threads here so from time to time I get a PM asking about something I posted and am more than happy to assist as best I can. That is only logical. Also I am not complaining, just find it odd.

What is illogical is over the past several months I have had PM's with random questions unrelated to anything I have posted about before. The topics are seemingly random, 06, 340 engine will not start, install locations for rod holders on an Amberjack (model not noted), and how to flush coolant in a 71, 427 engine. I have never owned any of these boats nor offered advice on them.

I just seemed odd that these would trickle in as they do and was curious if others of you experience similar random PM's?

Mike, I'm guessing here, but I suspect there are a lot of CSR members (myself included) who view you as sort of an expert on all things boating related. That may be the reason they reach out to you.

Now that there is an Ask The Captains area maybe you could simply direct them to that.

I have this odd noise when I put it into gear. Can you help? :D

My engines won't turn over right now... Can you help?

HI MM,

Noticed I hadn't seen you around CSR very much lately, thanks for stopping in.

I do have a question.

First some background. Finding some water in the engine room, can't tell whether it is salt water, fresh water, or from the black water holding tank. Thinking I should ask my boat management person to taste it, see what he thinks. Not sure if is related, but have a couple of lights that have failed on my rope lighting that goes around the bow. This leads me to my question, do you think it will rain in Florida the 3rd week of March?

thanks,

Now we need a thread explaining what this means :D Winter is getting long!
It took some research, but now I understand. “Turd Burglar” stood out, haven’t heard that since my father in law passed away... Do not, under any circumstances, click search, and enter that userid in the “posted by member” field!!

Where you been dude? Hell I'm still here and don't own a boat.

This pot doesn't like stirring like it used too. I still lurk form time to time. Likely be more active in boating season.

I wish all of us were not so far apart so we could meet more often. Truly my biggest lament of the changes in SR is the unfulfilled promise of an annual "Homecoming" at the now gone Knoxville location. The excitement built in just one meet was amazing and would have easily doubled the next year. This year would have been the 8th year of an event that had loads of potential. Can you imagine thousands of SR owners from around the world descending on Knoxville the weekend after dealer meetings, and CSR leading the way!

Ugh, did I fall asleep typing, I have a smile on my face it must have been a helluva dream...

On your original question, I did recently get a strange PM from someone I have never communicated with about an engine I know nothing about. I politely directed him to the Maintenance forum. That is the only one I have gotten.

"Mike,

I hope you can help me. I just installed this in my Engine Room and plan on using it tomorrow for a long cruise. How do I tap this into my gas tank so I don't have to refill it? Also.....as you can see I have it properly mounted and secured. The moving blankets reduce the vibration and act as a sound shield......"
