420/44 DB Owners Club

My old boat was: SERP6680H506

I think they're all built at the Palm Coast, FL plant, hence the P. I know the 06 at the end is the year.

In all my reading it seems that this year has the 480HP version of the 6CTA, which if left propped the way it was at the factory for all of its ~500 hours of life may be susceptible to the dropped valves. I've read the posts on sbmar, so I know how it should have been set up originally.

I know a full engine survey should turn up any issues, but is that the only true indicator of trouble? The first question I asked was if the boat has stock props and if it turned up to 2600+ RPM at WOT on a recent survey, waiting to get a response back but I suspect the answer will be less than definite.

It looks to be a beautiful example of the 420 and it happens to be an easy ride back across the lake to the states for us - but the history of that engine/config scares me a bit.
 
Clean looking boat, doesn't say the hours. Could be priced a bit high for an 05 even though its fresh water and seems fully equipped. Bridge air is nice to have. Never thought of keeping an Ax on board but i guess you never know. Also need to raise up that anchor light. Someone enjoyed all the creature comforts based on hows she's outfitted so they may have addressed the over propping issue. Definitely worth a look.

465 hours listed. They also mention they have "brand new spare props" so I'm thinking they were pulled and reworked. The price has been inching down since the end of the season. i still think they're a a little over-proud of her - but I believe it started as high as 285k US

and I totally missed the ax. That's an interesting mod...
 
I would find out if its a single owner vessel if so they barely ran her. 31 hours per season is not much at all. Not sure how much damage could have been done if the she was over propped. Doesn't seem like they ran her hard for distance but i'm sure more experienced members in this area will chime in. I do think if the price was right it may be a nice find. Have seen similar boat knock 100k off the price because she wouldn't sell.

those hours are pretty typical around here. Lake Ontario is only 60 miles wide and 190 miles long. Usually our usage pattern is cocktail cruising around harbors and a 20-30 mile trip. Once or twice a year we cross the lake and put 10 hours on. My average for the last 5 years was 50 hours/yr (before our first kid came along :) )

The CE does not keep hours and rpm data, correct? It would be nice to get that data

they’re definitely asking a premium but the market of nice bridge boats is thin up here. Lots of mid size express style.
 
SERP6648H506 is my number, not sure of the number system.

Don't know how they increment the numbers after the initial letters. The letter following the 4 numbers is the month it was built followed by the year, "2005", and then the final number is the model year, "2006", THerefore, yours would have been built in August 2005 and mine in June of 2005, both 2006 model years.
 
Do some homework on the 480CE's. They are a hybrid between Mechanical and Digital.

We are upgrading from a ‘07 34. Looking at an ‘06 44 but I need a few measurements for my slip.

Ive read all the specs but I need to know what the actual width of the swim platform and the portion just aft of the Sundancer logo indicated on my picture. I’d like the farthest point on both to gauge the actual width of the vessel in that position.

The 2006 44 is the same as the 2004 420, which I have. It is a 14' beam. Whether that widest point (14') is amidship or at the swim platform, I cannot say. I suspect it is amidship.

Are you looking for measurements on a 44DA or DB?

Hard to tell where the DA decal would fall on the DB.

Hey Bennett. It’s a DA.
Down in the good ‘ole south our docks are 4 pillings with a small walk way so I’m trying to gauge if the 14 beam is also that width at the swim platform. My front pillings are 16 feet wide and the aft pillings are a little over 15.5.
Both the 42’s and 44’s I’m looking at all have the 14 beam.
 
For you guys who have cameras in your ER. Where did you place them? Trying to make sure I cover the critical areas. What I mocked up is a camera facing the bow which captures the strainers for the mains and one on the aft port side facing the back of the generator.
 
Well I finally got a couple hours to start my aftercooler cleaning and gear cooler replacement project. I managed to get both aftercoolers and gear coolers off, as well as the airseps. Man, that port side aftercooler is not fun to get to. I expect putting it back together will be a pita... Epecially threading those lower bolts that secure the lower mounting bracket to the aftercooler. Now I need to get the cores out and start the cleaning project.

Its a big job but once its done you'll be proud that you saved your self several thousand bucks and you wont need to do it for several years. If you play your cards right it will be someone else's problem

Did the same a few months ago. Going to tackle the heat exchangers this weekend. Need some reassurance that they come apart easier than the aftercoolers. Primary concern is draining the coolant from the block.

Heat exchangers don't disassemble like the aftercoolers. Just take off the two end caps. That's all that's removable. Only reason to remove them from the boat is to pressure test them and/or paint them. Otherwise you can remove the end caps, rod out the tubes and put end caps back on with new gaskets, while still mounted in place on the engine.
