Key West bound

Confused???

From Ohio to KWF is $1k? If so, that dosen't seem too much....Flights to KWF can be pricey....What about Miami to KWF?

Anyway, I spent a month on Key Largo last year and we drove down to KW one day....My advice is do it on a weekday so you avoid the Miami weekenders....
We live in Indiana and typically use delta through Atlanta. First class for the two of us is always around $1,000 each. I can get my head around that as its our once a year fun trip.... But for delta to more than double it to over $4,000 for both of us just pisses me off.
They are obviously taking advantage of a small niche …. in the end it's only going to hurt Key west.

That’s why I avoid group trips.
Just getting my wife and two grown kids to agree on a vacation, or where to go out to dinner for that matter, is torture.
It is a shit show and a lot of effort to make the travel arrangements.... thank god for my wife as she puts up with most of the crap but once we get there it is a ton of fun... More than worth the agony and effort

but this is 4 couples ...it's like herding wild cats to get everyone to agree

We rented a Penthouse condo in Orange Beach, AL. with three other couples in 2013. Then from there to New Orleans for a couple days. Same problem. I finally said I'll see you guys down there. The wife and I took a couple extra days off and jumped in the car. Stopped off in Nashville on the way down. The last day everyone was trying to figure out what time to leave New Orleans and where to meet for breakfast. I said again I'm going to eat breakfast way North of here, I'll see you back in Michigan....I'm out.... I'm not a good planner. It took awhile to train the wife that if you don't make so many plans then they can't get ruined so much.

I've done the drive twice from MIA to KW and back and for the life of me can't work out why I did it the second time. I'm out of that slow parade of tourists.

Last year we did the Fast Cat from Ft. Meyers to KW and back. Left early one morning and spent one night at Margaritaville then headed back the following afternoon. That was a FUN trip. Will definitely do the ferry option again. Probably in the spring next year.

The ferry is pretty impressive and fast from Fort Myers to KW. Even in relatively severe beam seas, since it is a cat the ride was surprisingly good (although there were a number of passengers chumin' the water.

February is a busy month. We have a condo in Ft. Myers and usually take a drive to KW but have found the traffic to be an issue the closer you get to March break. Last year, we ran into bumper to bumper stop and go traffic for over two hours just before Marathon and decided to bail. Turned around and went back home - it just wasn't going to be worth it... The ferry is a better way to go!

I agree the ferry would be the best option. The problem is it leaves early in the morning and comes back late at night..... So you have to stay in a hotel for two nights... We don't have that extra time.

Going next year to key west taking our searay down. We live in north Florida. My in laws live in tampa .we could put the boat in Tampa bay and go down. Might be faster.

To close this thread out I made reservations to fly straight into KW. The other 3 couples are still trying to figure it out :)… I just sent them my itinerary and said we will see you down there.

We did it... We escaped that frozen tundra of the mid west... Beautiful weather down here...looking forward to kick'n back. Cheers everyone

Is that your place or an airBNB? If it's the latter would you share the details of it? We'll probably be visiting down there sometime this year. You can PM me if you prefer. Thanks.

We rent every year. This is the link of the house we are in now... We have always used this agency there are others too. This house we are in is a 10+. We needed 4 bedrooms this trip but you can find good deals on 3 bedrooms

Nice, have a great time, did you end up flying down or drive?
We were there a couple weeks ago and had a great time, took the ferry down from Fort Myers, nice smooth ride both ways.

Just got back on Thursday. Did the mia to kw drive and was no big deal. Stayed at margaritaville. Nice place. Lots of fun. Check out Virgilio’s on Monday’s for $7 martinis. Tiny place off the alley across from Walgreens. Came back to 4 inches of snow and the flu.
