The "virus" What are your thoughts

42,000 cases and counting.
Virus may be airborne as China spraying disinfectant in the air.

+1000 deaths.

El Capitan is a dick. Don’t give him the attention he is seeking. He has a 50 year old boat and a 30 year old car. I bet neither run. Maybe that’s why he is so grouchy.

People resort to profanity when they exceed their intellectual capacity.

Why, like I said earlier, I wouldn't want to be in a foxhole with these people...Even the most important part of the process they drop the ball at the earliest of stages...Good thing they're not overrun with cases.

I'm confused now how they are quarantining. If the people being quarantined are mingling and not being separated, if one person tests positive, they have to start the 14 days for everyone else. If you tested negative, they still should be individually isolating them. False negatives can happen as well as mistakes like above.

Then there are people like this woman.

Human behavior is unbelievable...

Had to grab something from Walgreens yesterday while I was there could not find any n95 masks. I asked the lady what the deal is and she said people are still buying them whenever they are available and shipping them off to their family overseas . I live in a very densely populated area 21 million people in the ny metro area And Long Island . I know that it would be a little paranoid to go out and buy these as soon as we heard about the coronavirus, but considering that in an area like this if you don’t do your Christmas shopping in September chances are you’re not gonna get anything close to Christmas... Same thing with any talk of a weather event in this area ,the bread ,milk and gas are in short supply. Me personally being this close to a population that big if This virus did enter the area I would absolutely want to be prepared as best as possible.... paranoid ?.... maybe not

@joeyleggz - Look, I think the social stigma of people feeling "paranoid" can cause people not to do what they should do...A little paranoia never hurt anyone. So take some precautions.

While it might be difficult to get the personal protection supplies, etc., you might want to stock up on a bit of non perishable food that can hold you over for a little while. Then in the event of an issue, you can limit your environment.

I had a few flights early in the week that were long. Decided to pick up a couple of masks to have with me if I decided to put one on. Primary thought was if the people near me made me pause, I could always put a mask on... might at least make me feel better.

Went to a few area CVS and Walgreen locations - all were out of stock. Oh well.

Note, 3 airports - did not see a single person wearing a mask.

How many burning bodies does it take to be picked up by satellite?...

...thousands, all of which are unreported.

Seems to be a lot of debate over whether a mask protects you from getting the virus... Even Oz has something to say

"Dr. Oz said wearing masks is not very effective. The virus is so small it can still get through many masks. The best bet is the tried and true method of washing your hands with soap and water."

When we fly we are now wiping arm rests, seat back trays with disinfecting wipes.... For sure airlines are not doing this. Wash your hands and don't touch your face seems to be your best defense

@Blueone - Let's presume for a moment that the talking heads are accurate and the virus has potential to get inside the mask. After all, it's just a filter....Have you ever used a filter? Have you ever seen that even the porous of filters traps dust that could easily get through? Further, while the virus is very small, it's important to understand that when someone sheds it, it's typically latched on to some larger, moist, molecules making it easier for a filter to collect...

But, let's put that aside for a second and discuss the talking point from the guidance of keeping your hands away from your face. What they really mean is hands away from orifices, right? So, what's a great way to make sure you don't touch them? I would say, putting on a mask that blocks your ability to re-actively put your hands near your mouth. Sounds logical, right? I mean if you think people don't put their hands on their face, simply observe people and watch how often they do it without even being aware of it.

So, even if the mask doesn't block the pathogen, it will certainly block your hands, correct? Unless you physically remove the mask to put your hand near your mouth.

Everyone, at this point, has a choice...And, while I'm not saying you need to wear a mask now, there may be a time when it's appropriate.

Look at any image of of any medical or official personnel and look at what they're wearing. A mask maybe? Why?

Why is the guidance different for citizens than medical personnel? Check the CDC website and look at the guidance for medical people with PUI....Here is a link for you...

https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-nCoV/hcp/infection-control.html

While the guidance for washing your hands is excellent, it's what we should be doing as a normal course of life. In other words, it should be normal and routine to do this and yet most people don't

Anyway, decide for yourself....

When I had some flights last week, I rubbed Purell on my mustache and top part of beard. Doubt it helped much, but I felt better.

We have our masks. N-99 full face masks with replaceable internal filters. They fit snugly. They will filter out most things, but also keep hands away from the nose/mouth. So important as so many have written.

This is an interesting development in mask technology:

Perhaps a DIY version is using a spray bottle of salty water to spray the outside of the mask and letting it dry. An added level of protection? Couldn't hurt. Plus breathing salt air is healthy.

Well I am screwed I just had wings for lunch :)

All good points..if you have to be out in public in an infected area... do everything

Source? Links or pictures?
You really should discover the wonders of search engines.

The reason people ask for links is so they can review the facts. When I post, I regularly post links so people can verify what I'm writing...It's a reasonable request.

You could also benefit from learning the wonders of search engines.

I met w the CDC partner in Tallahassee this week responsible for all public health reporting across all 50 states. My firm is actively engaged in PH.

We will begin testing the general population for corona in the US very soon, had not for defective reagents in the test kits we’d be testing already.

Please read the statements from the CDC carefully. See especially #1.

Prepare accordingly.
