Pet Peeves (Anything Goes)

It seems like a lot of guys on here are easily annoyed by everyday things, most of which have zero impact on their lives.
Justin, impact on a person's body can be measure in many ways. Have you ever griped about the horrendous roads in MI? Bad traffic in and around Detroit? Unplowed roads that slowed you down when you were in a hurry to get somewhere? That dam dog in your neighborhood that always barks early in the morning?

These little irritants that make you grit your teeth are the same things most people on here are griping about. Me? I'm usually in a hurry when I'm behind the wheel and like some others on here, get ticked off at the people who drive the speed limit in the left lane.

These "everyday things" are irritants. They piss us off but in just a few minutes we've forgotten them. The ones who can't forget these irritants are the ones you see on the news getting arrested for road rage.

I have a plan to move out of this state, a single raindrop doesn't blame itself for the flood (if you are in bad traffic...you are just as much fault), I own a vehicle that does very good in snow and I've done enough snow/off-road driving to know what I'm doing.. I'm also a stickler for being punctual, I talked to them about their dog and it's not a thing anymore. My point....the items you bring up, and others, can either be dealt with/planned around or let go. You can't control someone driving slow. If you're in a hurry, that's your fault, you should be planning better.
Everyone gets annoyed, it's human nature. I agree, it's how people handle stress that separates a bad day from a prison sentence. There some very specific gripes that make me roll my eyes and think "so...you're an adult?" Life is too short and you're too lucky to hate such small things.

Not YOU specifically. More of a "you guys" type of usage.

It's not the actual slow driving in and of itself that bothers me, it's the blatant lack of concern for everyone else that makes my blood boil. Riding the left lane can stack up traffic for miles and create accidents. It makes people weave in and out of lanes to get past that inconsiderate ass. I can be going 85 but I'm going to be moving out of the left lane as soon as I pass. It's not my job to play traffic cop and worry about the guy who wants to go 86. Left lane Larry's will always earn my scorn whether they feel they are playing traffic cop or just because they are oblivious to the rest of the world. I enjoy making them very aware that they are number 1.
Now one thing I did have to learn while I was driving in Ireland, the right lane is the hammer lane there.

So went out to eat last night and got behind an F150 who was behind an F350 dually. It was a 4 lane highway and the plow truck was in the left lane doing about 40. This 4 lane is a short stretch with a 45 MPH speed limit. The roads were not bad at all, just wet. The dually was driving about 15 MPH. We got to the intersection and all 3 of us trucks were turning right. The plow truck turned left. The dually continued to drive about 15 MPH for the next 1/2 mile before turning. Once we turned it went back to 2 lane so passing wasn't an option. I'm not exaggerating when I say he was doing about 15 in a 45. A couple of times he almost came to a stop in the middle of the road. Not sure if it was a mechanical issue or what but he could have moved over a little for us to pass. Luckily we only had to follow him about a mile.

ENstig8or, I think the drivers that do that are just completely oblivious to what is happening around them. When I come up behind one I usually will flash my headlights a few times to wake them up. Most of the time it works but occasionally they won't move over so I go around them. Then they move over. Go figure. I think they're pissed because I woke them up.

What would you do? Interstate post speed is 70 mph. I drive in the right lane doing 70 with the cruise on. Come upon a slower driver, no one in the left lane so I pull out , still with the cruise on to pass, Then pull back in after I pass the slow car. While I'm in the left lane someone thinks they can travel 85 comes up on my rear. Do you speed up, or continue doing the speed limit?

Sometimes I’ll speed up. It depends on the situation. Out in the middle of nowhere, speed up. Known police area, keep my speed until I pass, then pull over.

SeaVette, legally, as long as you are passing another car you can maintain the left lane until the pass is complete, then pull back to the right lane.

As a "good neighbor" driver you might step on the gas to decrease the time it takes to complete your pass then pull back to the right.

No cop is going to stop you for driving 75-78 mph in a 70 zone unless you're doing something else that's unsafe.

Personally as long as it's safe to do so, I'm going to speed up and move over to let the other driver go.

Funny, on all the different forums I frequent the issue of Left Lane Bandits comes up and immediately everyone is fired up and ticked off. It's almost like there's no one on that board that is actually guilty of it, and yet, every day of my life I'm stuck behind someone who refused to move over no matter how many people make crazy moves to get around them.

Texas has 1000's upon 1000's of signs along the highways and interstates that say 'Left lane for passing only' but I have yet to hear of anyone actually ticketed for ignoring that law. We might as well just save the money on the signs.

But I guess the same argument can be made about me and speed limit signs...... :)

@Carpediem44DB - Cool, what do you teach specifically?
@bone354 - So true - Surrounding yourself with negativity will do that to ya...haha

Wow, busy thread...haha...I laugh because I get what a lot of you are posting.

I don't have any pet-peeves (I think) but this new word "Woke" concerns me, as well as a few others from this new far-left socialist mindset....

I do find myself trying to figure out drivers that are at a four way stop and even though no other car is at the intersection, the driver waits until I get to the intersection and stop before proceeding through...Why? Why? haha....I've got to wait for them now, when they simply could have been gone and along their way. I guess they are concerned that oncoming traffic isn't going to stop at their respective stop sign, so they wait...Ahhhhhh..haha.

I would continue my passing maneuver at speed and then move to the right as soon as it was clear to do so. If Mr 85 gets bent out of shape, that's on him. He does not have the "right" to drive 85. If you continue in the left lane, at 70 after passing Mr. Slow, that's on you. You do not have the "right" to obstruct traffic.

Now if Mr. slow is going 69 and you just HAVE to get around him, at 70, I can see Mr. 85 getting tweaked, as you take 10 minutes to get around Mr. Slow.

Everyone should drive not only with attention, but with intention as well.
