I am in the process of updating the carbon monoxide detector on my 1999 380 sundancer, in the process I discovered there is no power to the device, is there an inline fuse and where might it be located? Any help would be appreciated.

Had a similar issue replacing three. After disconnecting found no voltage. So I'm replacing with battery operated. That removes any doubts created by old boat wiring. If there's a fuse or connection that's not directly to the batteries, that's just stupid. Can't fix stupid.

Can't say about your particular model, but mine has 3 carbon monoxide detectors and 3 inline fuses. I replaced mine and noticed the same problem. One of them had no power. On my boat, the inline fuses were located behind the breaker panel. Each of the three fuses were located inside a yellow boot connector.

That is a bit frightening. They replaced the factory detector on our 240 when we bought it. But, I installed two aftermarket battery operated ones the first week on the water. I hope there aren't people in here not testing them if there is such a high failure rate.

Have you pulled the old ones off the wall and checked for voltage using a tester?

When I bought my 98 290 DA a few years ago the previous owner disconnected them.

All was well when installing the new ones in their place. Used a single outlet cover plates from Lowes to make the installation look nice and neat.

1 amp CO detector fuses behind the DC power panel (52DB); typical for larger SR installations. 6 detectors on the 52DB....

I am a big fan of the 10 year battery CO/fire monitors. It’s a lithium ion battery, and you never replace it, the whole unit is replaced, and needs to be anyway since the CO sensors are only good for so long. They are not expensive either, 35$ on amazon, and I have seen them on sale at Home Depot/Lowe’s for 24.99. https://www.amazon.com/First-Alert-PRC710-Combination-Alarm/dp/B00ON6M56Y

Becareful with the 10 year ones, I used to use them in my rentals But a lot of them were failing after 1 to 3 years in service, so now I'm back to the replaceable battery ones. You don't know how long they have been sitting on the shelve for.

Found the inline fuse and replaced blown fuse, it was behind the breaker panel as mentioned tied into a bundle of wires.
Thanks for the input very helpful.

Since I already had the wiring I replaced for the same ones. But I also added a 10 year battery one, as those only work when the battery works. Figured redundancy saves lives

Do you have a link to where you purchased? Last I checked, I did not find an equivalent to the ones I currently have, but those 26$ ones from HD look very similar in size.

I replaced my factory CO detectors, put marine grade smoke detectors, and digital Kidde home units at each sleeping location...

As far as rentals----be aware--many new multi-family codes do not allow removeable batteries anymore and require the ten year batt models. Check with local fire official.

I just got the Fireboy 10 year battery detector from West Marine. The unit has a dated sticker on the bottom that shows when it was built. Also, you have to activate it before it starts working. I will leave my original in place and wired and just run with dual CO detectors.

CO Detectors are hot wired -- they maybe fused at your one of your DC panels, like under the dash, in the engine compartment etc. They need to be replaced every 5 years as when they expire the will continuously alarm. They should be tested at minimum every season or even better once a month.
