Two of my favorites have shown up in the last few days.

BoatUS printed magazine. Goes out to BoatUS members. Doesn't have all the new boat reviews and stories. Packed with what I call practical boating articles about boat ownership and cruising destinations. Always learn something new and makes me reconsider what I may have forgot and need to remember.

Waterway Guide email. This is about cruising and articles about places along the way. There is always at least 3-4 articles I want to read in-depth.

I still look at the Yachting magazines - but don't get as much out of them as the above two sources. Seems like the Yachting magazines are just becoming product placement and brochures from manufacturers. Not totally bad, but not as engaging to me.

What are your favorite reads?

Uh...Club Sea Ray, of course!

The other one I like is Workboat Magazine. Lots of good stuff in there.

In addition to Boat US I also get "Yachting" mag. It's the $100M kinds of yachts mostly but it's fun to read and dream about what I'd do if I won the PowerBall...

Are the rest of you getting deluged with boating mags that used to be sold as subscriptions but now are free?

I started getting the Boat US mag recently. Like it more than I expected for the reasons you mentioned.

I also like Soundings a lot. More focused on NE boating, has really good well written stories about boating. Some reviews, but not like other mags.

I also read Boating. Has a lot of reviews of smaller boats, but I usually find some good info in each edition. The ask the boat dr section is good. Helps get my fix when I can’t be on the boat.

I’ve noticed the subscription rates are way down. Soundings is a quality mag I’m willing to pay for, but I have a really cheap multi-year rate. Boating mag has become much thinner over the years. I think they will cut the rates to boost subscribers - the advertising really pays the bills and they need subscribers to get the ads.

All the mags & online resources mentioned so far. Also Panbo for electronics, iBoat forums, saltwatersportsman, and so on.

One of my favorite books on boating is Adrift by Steven Callahan. It's from the 80's but is an incredible story. It also gets one thinking of what to have in the ditch bag.

I subscribe to Boating as well. I had Boating World for a while, but they are more into the smaller boats and pontoons.

Love your Downeaster' by the way. That would be a great Lake Superior boat for my family.

Thanks. I was looking at it for years before I got it mid-season last year. It was super hard to give up my 270 AJ, as it was both an excellent boat and have so many good memories associated with it.

The Back Cove is also great, in different ways. More room for overnights, takes seas really well, is both fast and efficient with a single diesel. Although I hated to move from the brand, the last latter two are features I couldn't find in a larger Sea Ray. Back Cove owners tend to be located on the east coast, but there are a fair number in the Great Lakes area. Since it can handle seas quite well I think it would be a good Great Lakes boat.

I do not subscribe to any boating magazines but look through the Boat US magazine when it arrives. Also like the Waterway guide News. The info is almost endless as the many articles have links that lead to many more.
Just enjoyed reading about the wolves on Isle Royale. Not really boating related, but was led there from the great lakes section. Didn't realize there are over 2000 moose on the island(s). We are thinking about going there this summer, so it was timely.
I like to look over the cruising guides for places we are thinking of visiting. Right now I am paging through Bonnie Dahl's Superior Way.

The hard copy of Boat US magazine that is included with membership and Club SeaRay online.
