My starboard engine was bogging, then was fine, then port engine was bogging, then was fine nextime in water. Any suggestions or comments what this could be?

Could be any number of things. My first question would be the quality of your fuel, is it fresh or left over from last year ? Are both engines pulling from the same tank ? When were fuel filters last changed ? Thats just a few items to get the ball rolling.....

Yes to all those questions! I am getting fueled up at the Marina.

I am getting my fuel from the Marina! They also changed the fuel filters. Someone mentioned fuel tank vents. Any thoughts on that.

This model 280DA has a single tank. You could be experiencing the beginnings of the "cool fuel 3" issues, as you're in the right era for that (google/search on this site for that info... there's plenty). But it would be odd (although not unheard of) for both engines to experience the same thing at the same time. The vent is a possibility - probably not due to bugs given the design of the vent, but it could be a clog/low spot in the vent line.

Check the things mentioned so far - including fuel pressure if it continues. Although it certainly wouldn't be bad to check now, too.

FYI, your signature says "350" Mercs. The 280DA never came standard with those engines - it could be helpful in the future to make sure to have the correct engines listed. Unless you re-powered?

Yes you are correct. It is 4.3L V6 with 220 hp. I just purchased the Boat end of last season. It was running fine till I returned and that’s when my problems started. The Mechanic was on the boat after it happened and then later said the bogging went to the other side and then quit! I’m not sure what to do. At this rate I could lose the whole season. Just looking for ideas. I have been a boater for many years just not lately.

Well, at this point, you've got some ideas from the posts above. Once you go through the list and check these out, that will either find the culprit or help narrow down the suspects.

Running with the fuel fill cap open (of course, avoid water getting in) is an easy way to check the fuel vent system. If the problem goes away 100% with the cap open, the issue is the vent system.

How much time passed from the bogging moving from one engine to the other and then how long did it bog down before quitting?

Just to be clear... you're positive that the fuel quality is good? You may want to double check by taking a sample of the fuel from the fuel/water separator (cool fuel module).
