This has graced the back pages of Power & Motoryacht magazine for at least the past 3-4 years?

'85 GUY COUACH 72' MOTORYACHT
So says the website...

The loan payment would be the cheapest part about owning that beauty!

72'...she'd look a bit silly in my 40' slip...

Besides being old(er) and all that might imply, what do you suppose is wrong with this boat and if its something totally fatal, why would the owner pay for years of display advertising in P&MY if no serious buyer would ever consider it?

Is there some scheme where if you legitimately advertise it for long enough and nobody buys it you can get out of jail free somehow? Write it off as salvage or something?

Edit: I just looked at the web site, and it seems like it's not a total piece of junk, barring the fairly garish, dated Las Vegas interior. (And what's with the 6 phones in the master suite?)

There has to be some catch to this besides its old.

Damn, I was looking at buying a home in FL. It would be cheaper to buy that and just live on it! It looks really nice inside. 5 staterooms and 5 heads. The biggest problem with it is it is French! lol

If one of you can help me win the 50M jackpot this weekend, I'll buy it for you.

I guess that's kind of what makes this seem intriguing to me. Not you winning the lottery per se, but what you might get out of this even if you had to sink real money into it.

If you can get the boat for $225k and had to put $775k into it, how far would that get you assuming you had ideal hull integrity?

A boat of this type and size new is like $2-4 million dollars if its less than 10 years old, so for a total outlay of $1 million it might actually be worth it other than the part where you run an ad in P&MY for 5 years to convince people it's actually worth buying some years down the road.

I guess the real question is what your $775k would do in terms of how totally comprehensive you refit it. I'm guessing a full propulsion repower isn't in the cards, but what about as complete of an engine rebuild as you could do without removing the blocks? Is that good enough, or are these motors so outdated (fuel efficiency or monitoring or whatever) that it would be not worth it? Interiors, gensets, etc, seems within that budget.

Obviously finding a yard capable of doing all this work (and well) would be a big deal too.

Or am I the only guy that occasionally looks at the relatively low prices for commercial boats and thinks "gee, a person could make that actual trawler into a yacht for less than new.."?

Actually...It might be a great buy. Where could you get waterfront property for 300K? Even if you parked it at a marina and never left the dock it is all you could want.
