Here are a few photos when they ran the remote for my stereo. Take the padding off the rear bulkhead remove panel by central vac and run wire under stairs.

Wish i had seen this post before i ran mine behind the port fridge and through the engine compartment and up through the stbd bench and helm seat!! Mine worked but sure would have been a shorter run. I am always worried about removing those panels!! Nice work

Thanks for this post. I've been hesitant to tackle some sagging panels in our forward berth. I'm assuming Sea Ray used similar fastners to hold our panels in. I didn't want to start prying blindly. My guess is some of my clips failed.

Sorry but caught in the moment and didn’t take pics. Easy to find. It’s the black plastic connector that connects two wires leading out of the “bundle” that go direct to each solenoid. Can’t miss it. Thanks

Quick follow up question just to ensure I understand the way the panels are fastened. Do you remove all of them just by gently tugging them away from the back walls? No screws or other type fasteners?

Sorry I can’t give you any more info, I did not see them remove or install them, I believe they all had the little plastic clips.

I used a car panel tool (no idea what it’s really called!) to remove other panels on my boat.

Yes it is. That is the plunger but the failure was that small black plastic connection next to it. I took it apart and found the problem. I decided to now replace all of the helm micro switches, all the solenoids, connectors, and the plungers on both sides. There is a shift kit from ZF for about $1,000/ea. I am biting this bullet since it's so important and old already. I noticed 2 of my plungers move pretty freely and two didn't act like they should so...

Can some one do me a favor?... I had my aft canvas redone and the guy did something weird with the strips that go up the side...see pic, this was before he screwed it up. He put white Velcro on the outside and a zipper on the inside and it just looks ridiculous. If you could take a pic of the OEM strip to I can remember how its configured. It was blue canvas on the outside that's what I want back... I cant take it in until April so no hurry.. Thanks

I'm going to the boat Thursday. I'll take some pics for you. PM me if you want to talk on the phone to give me better instructions.

We are soon to be 420 DA owners, and one of the items that doesn't work is the central vacuum. The seller is not prepared to "fix" this, and I'm wondering if there really is a need for this, or if I could get by with just a Dyson or something similar. I see the value of not having to store something (because it already has it's space on the boat), but not sure if it's something that really needs to be there. Interested in thoughts on this.

Are you sure it doesn't work? Does the seller actually know how to use it?

That vacuum is awesome for the cockpit, dash, cushion and down below....Don't get rid of it you would regret it.
Most often the problem is the end of the hose that plugs into the receptacle … it does not complete the circuit to turn it on... its usually the receptacle….. get a meter and check around.

On my boat, original blue canvas. The canvas flap that covers over the zipper has the 'black' velcro on the underside. The other velcro component is sewn along the edge of the canvas panel. No velcro can be seen when the flap is pushed down and the velcro halves join. This not a good pic but zoomed, looking at the bottom, it might help.

I had just talked this morning to a canvas guy about doing my rear canvas. I've never done anything with him before. I put emphasis on the fact that I want him to copy what I have, to do it 'just like' what is on it now. I sure hope 'do overs' aren't required.

Shove the hose connection into its receptacle and make sure its tight. Also, make sure the breaker is on which drives the vacuum. You will want it, they often appear broken because of poor connection. Shove it in and wiggle...
