I need some help locating a fuel gauge for my 2003 280 Sundancer. SeaRay is know longer supporting this gauge and gave no advice for a replacement. The fuel gauge is connected by a plug in connector. I cannot locate this gauge in the aftermarket. I can find a gauge that appears to be an identical gauge except it is connected with single wire connections. I am looking to see if anyone has knowledge or experience with this issue. My question is would the identical appearance gauge be compatible if I cut off the plug in connector and use the wires to connect directly to the the new gauge that uses single wire connectors?

let me look in the basement. I converted our 280 to Smartcraft and trout the Sr gauges. I think I kept them. Please confirm your tach has a small lcd screen and the plug for your gauges has a square Ross section and six (?) pins.

Thanks for your response. Yes my tachometer has the small lcd screen and the square ross section. All of the gauges have been replaced except the fuel gauge and that is the only gauge I a looking for.

Henry,
While you are down there looking, I have a 2001 280DA with a bad port tachometer. It is the kind with the little LCD hour meter in the bottom. No SmartCraft.
If you have a working one and are looking to sell, please let me know.

I heard from my old 280’s new owner. He is agreeable to selling the gauges. I don’t know if he is a member of CSR, so I’m working out how he wants get his contact info to you. As soon as I know I will let you know.

Thanks for everyone's help. I have ordered a gauge from FP Marine that appears to be an exact match except it is not a plug in gauge. I will cut off my plug and wire directly.

Still waiting. I want you to know the gauges were working when I replaced the whole thing with a full suite of Mercury Smartcraft. That was in 2008. The gauges have been stored in the individual boxes the SC gauges came in inside a plastic storage box in my basement that is heated in winter and dehumidified in summer. So basically good storage conditions. So all I can say is that they were working fine when I put the boat in storage in the fall of 2007.

Good luck. My research into the Nextgen gauges was that they were not compatible with the older analog gauges Sea Ray used. Either way let us know how it works out.

To be on the safe side and keeping “hope for the best, and plan for the worst” in mind, make sure you leave enough wire on the plug so you can splice it back to the wiring harness if it does not work.

Hoping it will work but my intention is to try and put short wires on the gauge and get a connection from the plug before I cut it off.

The fellow who bought my 280 posted his contact information in the official 280 thread. He did post pictures but the gauges are in the boxes from the SmartCraft stuff I installed, so the labels are all wrong.
