Oil at Costco

I buy 5 gallon buckets of oil to recycle the used oil... so I use the reverso to refill... it’s better for the environment :)

This old dirty oil thing left in the reverso and hose is only half a cup at most.... and it is what 50 hrs old.... I am not that worried about it

I found a type of jug that I use for disposing of the used oil. They're rectangular, have a built in handle for ease of handling, and I get them free from the restaurant right at the top of the marina docks.

They come in a heavy cardboard container and the restaurants get their cooking oil in them then throw them out. They saved a few for me when I asked.

They should match if the other vendor is local. Our west marine will also match amazon as long as it is from amazon, not from someone else and “shipped by amazon”

I just receieved an email from West Marine featruing engine oil. They're selling 1 gallon containers of Shell Rotella T4 for $19.99. I wonder if they will price match the Costco price?

I’ve got two reusable large plastic containers that hold the used oil and the Town I live in has a recycle location with a couple of large 1000 gallon tanks.
They require residents to pour the used oil in to the tanks anyway and provide receptacles for the empty containers. I just take my re-useable containers back home and put them away until the next time.

That's awful…. but typical WM

In 2017/18-ish WM had a price match policy where you show them a lower price for the same item and they matched it. It was easy. They logged what competitor had the price. A clerk at the store told me it was so Corporate could track where customers were cross shopping and who had the competing / better prices so WM could eventually institute a lower permanent price structure. It was a pretty good program that wasn't too hard to use and I bought a lot more from WM during that time. I was really hopeful that they would come to their senses and have a better every day price structure since I like to support local retail.

I guess it worked too well since they they changed the program to be Amazon direct only and retail stores within 50 miles of your location. Luckily for me, Defender is within 50 miles. However I'm definitely buying less from WM since the change.

My town (Brookhaven) also has a free collection point for waste oil. I've used it a couple times but it's at the land fill at bit of a haul (25 minutes each way).

Luckily New York requires businesses that sell new oil to to accept 5 gallons of waste oil per day from consumers at no charge. I took my 5 gallon pail to Jiffy Lube and poured in their tank. Much more convenient than going to the town facility.

NY's rules on who has to accept waste oil at no charge (up to 5 gallons per person per day):
  • Business that sell 500 gallons per year and services vehicles.
  • Retail stores that don't service vehicles but sell 1000 gallons per year. They have to accept the oil directly or contract with service or other business to accept the oil.

Mine is just up the road. Probably less than a mile away.
I used to bring it to my friends auto repair shop where he would use it in his waste oil heater, but he retired a couple of years ago and the guy he rented the shop to prefers that the oil be left in the containers so he can pour it in his tank when he gets around to it.
When my friend was still running the shop I had free reign of the place, including use of a lift and equipment when he was slow, but that ended when he retired.

I only use reverse for tranny fluid as it is way easier than manual. Oil I pour 5 gallon drums. I also have a new transfer pump just to put oil in that I am going to try this month.

This thread has gone off track--so I am bringing it back----The original pic is not "peanut butter"---
--- it is for Pretzels,-- filled with peanut butter. I hope this helps.

Its still a good price for pretzels .... but peanut butter would have been an awesome price:)

That’s a great price! Wish I could use the multi viscosity.
Unfortunately, I use straight 30 weight Rotella and Costco never has that deal.
But Walmart is the best place to buy the straight 30!
