I have a theory on storms in Michigan - if the local weather forecasters are talking about "how bad it will be" four days before the event, the forecast will generally be 95% over-stated in severity :)

If areas in mid-Michigan truly get 3/4"+ of ice tomorrow....man alive. That would be a problematic amount of ice. I heard the weather folks on Wednesday saying some models were showing 1"+ of accumulating ice. I'd have to assume we'd set local records for power outages if that happens.

Here's to hoping none of us CSR folks are significantly impacted. Get yer generators gassed up!

Stay safe. The ice storm of 1976 (March I think it was) was a real biggie. I lived in Grand Rapids at the time and it seemed that half of the trees around were either completely down or dramatically split. Some of the snapping trees sounded like cannon fire.

My niece teaches elementary school in SE Iowa. Her school closed already today.

PS. I agree that hyped storms usually don't live up to the hype.

Power Lines can handle 1/4” of ice, after that, the extra weight will cause outages, 3/4-1” will be a lot on them

Well it's pushing in on 10AM and we're just now starting the transition to freezing rain.

It's quite windy right now. I'm wondering if the wind will prevent some of the icing. Hard to "stick" to the lines and trees with 30mph gusts? Who knows.

I'm a little bummed since I was planning to drive to my marina today and vinegar wash my hull. Perhaps I'll start working on my windlass cover instead...in between entertaining three kids, indoors :)

I put the rain gauge back out yesterday. Almost 2.5" of rain since it started last night. It was 54 degrees at 5:30 am, and is now down to 37 degrees. I am in the Kalamazoo area. Propane tank is full and the whole house genny might be in for a workout. And the chainsaw......

That's funny...I filled up my two-stroke gas can last night too. Expecting to exercise the saw as well. But with all this prep I'm confident we'll get a bunch of nothing.

Snowing in Dallas as I type.

Yesterday it was 70, then severe weather with Tornado warnings around the area. Storms passed, cold air came in...

Doubt it will last long...

I was bummed we wanted to drive to Chicago for the Boat Show but instead I drove to the gas station to fill all my cans for the generator. Two stroke for chain saw & Diesel for tractor. Now time to kick back and read a good book.

I grew up in Saginaw and can remember some of those ice storms. The worst I recall was about 1965 or so. I was in college and drove a delivery truck part time. I had to chip about 1/2"-3/4" of ice off the truck before I could drive it.

Good luck you guys. We're in for some freezing rain but nothing like what you guys might get.

That arrow is pointing at my house !!!

Would love to see those... from the shore!
I was down at the beach today on the west side of the lake. The wind was primarily coming out of the north, switching slightly east so we were getting sideswiped by the waves. Big, but nothing we haven't seen before. I will see if I can upload video. I suspect the bottom if the lake is getting slammed.

In terms of the "big storm"...this has to be one of the biggest misses I've lived to see from a hype/forecast perspective. I just checked....1,800 people without power. That's probably a typical May day average :)

Trace of ice, 1/2" of snow and that was it. Nada. A little bit of wind?

I know forecasting is likely far more complex than we can ever imagine but it would be so refreshing for one of these degreed professionals to say "we blew it" on the 6 O'clock news...I'm mad I altered my Saturday plans because of the forecast.

Yeah. We where supposed to get 4+ inches. We barely got anything.

What we need is a competing weather channel network. A network of meteorologists that are not complicit in the anthropologic climate change ruse that the world is inflicted by. We need people who can be honest and just give us a best guess as to a forecast with a disclaimer that its not the exact science people think it is, be prepared for the worst but hope for the best. Instead we get these broadcasters that use their computer modeling, look at ten scenarios and it seems picks the worst possible to scare the crap out of citizens and then just shrug their shoulders when they get it wrong. Its funny how the media is so convinced that the data shows the world is coming to an end when if you look at several weather apps on your phone and for the same city get wildly different data! Want to know what the weather is, Stick your head out the door and check, the weather will be what it will be. Perfect example is the BS we went thru here in Ca this fall with wind predictions and power shut downs. One week the power was off and we had just minor winds. The next week wind was blowing forty but we had no power interruption.
Funny too though, I still pop on the local TV channel every morning, not to see the news of the house fire or body found in park but I love to see the gorgeous blond with the big'ns tell me what the weather is going to look like:D:D
Have a wonderful Sunday everyone!
