Can anyone offer up a recommendation for a good vinyl repair shop, preferably on the south shore of LI? Seam let go on bench seat back. Also entertaining doing some other vinyl.

Interior for the most part looks good for 20 years old but there are some places like the back to back seat that need work.

Don't want to hijack this thread , but: a different twist on this is vinyl repair products for diy. I've got a couple of very small spots that need repair.

So here is my $.02 (which is probably what it's worth). To do that repair right, they probably need to uncover the seat. Which begs the question -- may as well recover it with new material. Otherwise, I would just get some good thread and stitch it up from the outside to stop it from getting any worse. You'll "see" it, but it will be serviceable.

HenJO on Merrick Rd in Copiague. Does Nice work

Ditto above. Thread is rotten and done. The upholstery vinyl is also 20 years old and the labor to take it apart to properly restitch = new vinyl.

If you simply want to "survive" I've had good luck in using vinyl repair tape in the past. You can keep the seam from further separating and extend the life until it's time for a proper resurfacing/repair. Obviously you will notice the tape...but it's not as offensive as I thought it might be.

Thanks for the info guys. Once I had it removed I can see what goes into removing the skin so yeah just redoing it is the best way to go. I have to wait until the boat is unwrapped so I can get the smaller remaining pieces of the backrest off so it all matches. I also hate to lose the Sea Ray stitching in the center. Maybe they can reuse it as part of the rebuild, we'll see.

Talk to Kevin C (post #7)

He should be able to fix it and also have it embroidered.

As @Espos4 mentioned... We can add the Embroidery back into the new panel. Since the work is new we are free to choose colors for both the panel and the threads. This is a sample of a piece we did a while ago.

Another vote for Kevin! He’s local, I’ve seen his boat and know the attention to detail in his work.
Plus he’s a forum vendor.

OK. I'm going to reach out to Kevin when it's practical. I was hoping just to get the seem fixed so I only removed this section of backrest before shrinking the boat. If I'm going to get this vinyl redone then I'm going to expand the job to other areas as well so It'll have to wait until early spring. Thanks for all the input guys.
